Unlocking phones other than Nokia thread?

Looking through the Mobile forum tonight it seems full of requests for unlocking phones and as users don't seem to be searching to see if their particular phone has already been discussed I think the time has come for a tidy up in this board.

The Nokia unlock thread seems to be working well, especially with our two resident experts in this, Browntoa and drahcir

From what I know a lot of the other makes of phones require cables etc and are not as simple as a code like the nokia phones so this thread would be more of an advice thread, perhaps with links to dedicated unlocking forums.

In keeping with MSE rules this thread would not be an advertising oportunity for people to charge users for unlocking phones. As there are so many makes of mobiles it just isn't possible to have a dedicated thread for each manufacturer so all other makes of phone would be on the one thread.

Instead of just adding another sticky thread were you thinking of adding a 'Unlocking Mobiles' sticky thread and then moving the 'Nokia' and the newly created thread on other non-nokia unlocking to the 'unlocking mobiles' thread?

perhaps the "two resident experts" could make a list here of the more commonly available non-nokia mobile phones stating how you go about unlocking each one. that could save a lot of repartition and make the whole searching process easier for all.

bb my thought was to start a new thread for other phones and leave the nokia, however today i have broken my wrist (mouse one):mad: and typing tonight is a bit painfull


once i can move my fingers a bit easier i'll ask browntoe and drahir (sp) for help and their thoughts.

I don't mind helping out! I might not have been on the forums for long but I don't mind helping. Personally though I think alot of people will still post before noticing the sticky...

I've got a whole list of codes here that do different models...maybe we can do it as a sticky

people will always post without searching but if there is a sticky for unlocking other mobiles i can move any new posts into it as i try to do with the nokia thread if is caught in time!

browntoe, do you want to start something and i can make it sticky when you are happy with it?

last thing, should we have a new dedicated nokia thread, has the existing one run its course?

Totally agree with you on the posting, but I personally think that merging posts would make it sloppy from a guide perspective.

One guide which people can browse though and enter the codes and stuff. Problems with unlocking can be highlighted (just like a diagnosis part) and everything is cool.

I think the Nokia post should start again personally.

Just opened that new thread

tried to make it as clear as possible and posted a link to the source of one of the bits of information as it's a direct copy from his site (its not a pay for unlocking site !! )

might be worth starting a new thread for the Nokia's to tidy it up but it does work as it is...I'll let you decide
