Sheila's wheels Home Emergency Insurance or NOT

Hi
I took out a home insurance policy early this year, I also paid for the extra Home Emergency Policy, believing I would be covered
Last night -5c the house suddenly plunged into darkness, boiler and all the sockets, the house lights still worked, but obviously the table amps we had on all failed.
So went to the consumer unit and saw the sockets had tripped and wouldn't reset, so looked round the house for anything obvious, plus unplugged every appliance from the sockets and tried to reset the trip...nope
Ahhh Sheila's Wheels Home Emergency Policy
so I rang them and went through the usual inside eg measurement, D.o.B etc, and then the "how can we help you bit?" I said the electric gone off in that all the sockets and central heating is off, plus it's very cold, so could someone call round please ?
"Oh I see, sorry, electrics are not an emergency and are no longer covered"
"Sheila, to you they are not an emergency, but to me they bloody well are"?
End result, no cover for electrics, although the policy clearly states they are, and I have been with them for a number of years, I am told they stopped covering electrics around April or so, and wrote to customers ? really, not to me they didn't and how the hell is a comprehensive home insurance policy, one that doesn't cover electrics.
So local electrician called out, now waiting for the bill, thanks Sheila

Yes March?0

Well, changes they made in April shouldn't affect you until your next renewal in March 2013. I don't see how they can impose a change on you one month after your renewal.0

http://www.sheilaswheels.com/wcm/groups/public/documents/webcontent/sw_home_policy_booklet_may2012.pdf
this is their t&c's for policies taken out nov 2011 and nov 2012.
Im afraid electrics is not in that policy booklet.
In their previous booklet it is.... but would they still have came out for you???
Reason i query, is you had a partial power failure..... you atill had power.
You see this is the tricky bit... some insurers will cover if all lights or all power sockets have failed.
Other say it must be a complete failure in the house.
Have you got your renewal letter? does it make reference to this this significant change?
If not might be worth starting a complaint, and going the whole way to the FSA if they dont comply.Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?0 -

It will do you a favour as SW are a bad Home Insurer, do a search of MSE or google for the complaints, they're v serious problems unique to SW0
