Time is running out, please claim your £130 asap

I am not sure whether it has been widely known in the forum, but lots of my friends do not know.

All big six offer £130 credit to your bill (even you are on prepayment meter) under the Broader group scheme, it is not automatically, and you will have to ring them to apply it, most company sasy the deadline is end of the year.

Most people in benefits, e.g. JSA ESA or housing benefit will get it. Each company has different rules.

It is a free phone to call, money is out there, claim it or lost it.

    I'm a hard earning taxpayer.

Can I claim too, or do I just have to fund the benefits of those who keep their curtains closed in the morning?

Since you are lucky enough to have a job, not be disabled or on pension credit, probably not.

I thought the majority of this discount came from the energy suppliers so hopefully not out of your taxes.

I keep my curtains closed to keep the heat in.

Thank you for this post as you say a lot of people do not know this. As am on pension credit I am in the core group and its automatic people in what they are calling the broader group have to apply.

Thanks OP, thats really useful :)

Is it for gas or electricity, do you know, and how do they apply it, if you are on a pre pay meter?
  • Just because I was prudent and saved for my retirement I am no longer eligible for this payment.

I got it last year but because of a pension lump sum I got I no longer get pension credits, council tax benefits, in fact no benefits at all all because I have more than £16,000 in the bank.

I'm going to buy a new car next year, what could I get for £17,000?

That will bring me down to the threshold to claim benefits again

    cue the DOC crowd.

    - be careful with that - Deprivation of Assets - the DWP & their henchmen may come after you
    - ditto - Deprivation of Capital for Housing Benefit / Council Tax claims with your Local Authority
    - ditto again with the HMRC

How do you know I have a job? Have you not heard of those of us who get off our backside and go out and earn a living even if we can't find ourselves a job?

How do you know I'm not disabled?

Yes, you're assumption that I'm not old enough to receive a pension or pension credits is correct.

Where do you think the suppliers get the money from if not from those who pay their bills?
Isn't this a reason why all the major suppliers are saying they have no choice but to increase prices?
Government legislation. Stealth taxes if you ask me.

You'd be better off having your curtains open during the day and let the sunshine in to allow your windows to act like a greenhouse and warm up your home.
Even if sunlight is in short supply, opening the curtains and letting daylight in will mean you won't have to turn your lights on unnecessarily.

By all means close the curtains as dusk falls to help avoid heat loss.

Without getting into the wider debate, the Government have made the Utility companies fund these rebates and 'social tariffs'; and for that matter the subsidies for 'Green energy'.

Those costs are just passed on to the customers in the way of higher prices.

    Mugged?

Which is what you were when you fell for the lies about saving for your old age.

By now you have probably realised that if a politician advises it, then its probably wise to do the complete opposite.
