what does "bt_test_user@fs" signify??

Hi again,

I am having continuing problems with my orange broadband. No internet connection for two days now. When I rang up the help line a few weeks ago I was asked to insert bt_test_user@fs in the router log-in details in place of my own personal log-in. I was cut off before I got the chance to ask what this would do.

Today I repeated the procedure. I have inserted the above bt login in place of my personal log-in. When I do this the green internet light comes on (previously it was red) but when I try to access google I get a standard screen from BT saying I have been directed there because of a problem. I am not able to access the internet. When I take out the BT login and put my own personal log-in details back in, the green light goes and the red one comes back again.

Can any one tell me what is the purpose of putting in the bt_test_user@fs in the router log-in? I am guessing it is some sort of test but what does it signify?? If the internet light comes on green when doing this then what does that mean??

I would love to know what is going on.

That link looks very useful. I will try out the other tests later this evening and let you know what they come up with.

    Many thanks.
  • It means you are logged on to the Orange service with a test username. You will need to replace with your own username in order to connect.

If you can't connect with your own username then Orange need to sort it.

Thanks for that Roland. So I have been logged on to the Orange service with a test username but when I have put my own username in I cannot connect.

I have been on the phone to the Orange helpline tonight but still cannot get a connection. I am starting with BT next week so hope all these problems will come to an end.

It is a sad way to end with Orange. I had ten years of totally trouble-free broadband and was content to stay with them even though I was paying well over the odds. Now there are too many problems. I am paying Orange for broadband but have to use my mobile wifi to get online.
