Please someone help!!!

Options
I really hope that someone can help because I am going to explode with frustration!!!

:D

I am trying to set up my email account in Miscrosoft Outlook. I have managed to set up my personal account OK, but caanot seem to sort out my business one. it is an old freeserve one, ending in fsmail.net.

I have just got a new PC, which has Windows Vista, which I am still getting used to!

Does anyone know what settings I should use? Sorry if I am being a bit vague, I dont really know what I am talking about....:o

Did you have your fsmail.net account working in Outlook previously?

    If not, perhaps this applies:

That could be it. Thanks for that I have never been able to access it though outlook, but I thought it was because my old PC was carp.

Now I am even madder because I HATE going onto the internet to access my emails. I thought my new PC would solve this problem...

Have you tried the settings given here for Outlook?

  • Is your current ISP no longer freeserve then? Because they may not allow direct access of their POP mail servers unless you're connected using their account.

I have tried that now - thank you - but it doesnt seem to work when I test it. It keeps asking for my email. If I remember rightly, this is what problem I had before.

I would just get a new email, but it is a business email and it is printed on 5000 business cards...

This is why it is far better to have ISP independent e-mail accounts, which make changing ISP's easy. If you are no longer paying for Orange, you may only be able to access the old e-mail account via an e-mail client using PAYG dial-up!

  • Easiest way to ensure you always have the same address is to either use a service like Hotmail / Gmail - or better still, register a domain name and buy an email address with it.

That way, you take it with you wherever you go.

Although, Im sure that your old ISP will rent you the mailbox alone for a small charge. Ask them - cos I know BT Yahoo do it.

I used to use Freeserve dial-up but have TalkTalk broadband now. I can access my Freeserve emails via TalkTalk but I have to dial into my old Freeserve account every three months or they suspend it.

Buying a domain name is definitely a good solution, it's not all that expensive (I just paid £10 for two years) and fairly straightforward to set up. and yes, you don't have to worry about changing email address if you switch ISP.

Some sites/retailers don't like "disposable" email addresses like G-Mail or Hotmail. Getting a Hotmail address also used to be like handing out an open invitation to spammers, although I think Hotmail may have done something to fix that recently.
