My partner had to deal with a case recently where the girl was barely 15. Damaged for life. Permanent brain impairment. What a waste of a life.

And this was caused by what? And how was the causation established?

I suppose the illegal drug trade keeps a lot of crims away from the general law abiding public.

No it doesnt. It funds their lifestyle.

If it were legalised they would have to start doing something else such as burglary or car theft, rather than just dealing with junkies and running around killing and maiming each other.

Is there any evidence that this would happen? On the contrary, the experience of places like Portugal that have instituted decriminalisation is that both drug use and drug related crime decrease following decriminalisation.

But never mind, all the daily mailbots will still go around chanting "drugs are bad mmkay" and ignoring the fact that all the evidence contradicts them.

Actually you're the one who doesn't get it.

Prohibitions simply do not work and only create the conditions necessary for crime and other nefarious behaviour to flourish.

I'd suspect that if drugs were legalised and taxed, a quarter of the deficit would be wiped out at a stroke. If it was a global effort, then violence in Mexico and Columbia would probably be sorted.

Prohibition simply does not work...Another viewpoint to read.
