Drug debate; What is the best course to follow

Are they on the same planet to say this, to say drug use is falling?
Anyone who claims to have reliable figures for illegal activities is talking out of their rear end.
If illegal drug use is decreasing then that's only because there are so many alternative highs which are not illegal (yet).0 -

I have done plenty of research, have seem many prentations by experts in the field of not only drugs, but drug users/Ex users and
Drug support charities.
without exception EVERYONE of them say the biggest issues, is that most people who use dont know the facts. that there is this belief that class c drugs are safe - and alcohol and tobacco are worse. in 99% of cases its wrong. There are areas where the legal drugs are worse, but across all areas they generally arnt.
Drugs are just a bad idea - both legal and illegal. There not safe - no drug is safe. Its not "just having a good time". the long term mental health issues are well documented, and often severe.
Actually you're the one who doesn't get it.
Prohibitions simply do not work and only create the conditions necessary for crime and other nefarious behaviour to flourish.
I'd suspect that if drugs were legalised and taxed, a quarter of the deficit would be wiped out at a stroke. If it was a global effort, then violence in Mexico and Columbia would probably be sorted.0 -
I suppose the illegal drug trade keeps a lot of crims away from the general law abiding public.
If it were legalised they would have to start doing something else such as burglary or car theft, rather than just dealing with junkies and running around killing and maiming each other.0 -
Can't be arsed to type my thoughts again, it's all in here for this topic

The worst thing about this 'debate' is that people who use drugs recreationally and enjoy them and it doesn't affect their lives or jobs get lumped in with burgling smackheads.
THEY ARE NOT THE SAME.
Decriminalisation is the only way forward.0 -

And that is terrible, however alcohol does far more damage than cannabis, or any other drug.
Perhaps if drugs were legal then people would actually educate their kids as to the effect of drugs rather than just saying don't do it. There is no better advert for keeping clear than looking at pictures of meth addicts.0 -

i dont think so.
drugs have been part of human life pretty much since records began. The fact is people want to get off their nut occasionally. Yes there are extreme cases of abuse, but in all walks of life that occurs. Prohibition has been around for about 100 years in this country, and so far all it has done is help fund organised crime and fill prisons. It doesnt stop use thats a given. It doesnt even have to, why shouldnt people be allowed the choice to use sunstances? what harm does it do to anyone else? yes theres fallout, and its sad where there is addiction for families etc, but not everyone who takes drugs becomes an addict. In fact, class A substances are a part of professional circles all over.
I admit, i spent many years using various substances, not heroin or crystal meth, but many recreationals. I came to no harm. I still managed a professional career and a family, as many people i know have done too. I stick to the booze now, which is not that often, but the effects of that are the worst I have experienced in people. Violence, depression, addiction etc...
Education and awareness of drugs in this country is shocking, and thats tbe biggest part of the problem0 -
paulmapp8306 wrote: »SERIOUSLY need to do some proper research there. some Class Cs, have less of a medical issue of a physiological nature than alcohol or tobacco. Pretty much ALL class B and Class A drugs are far worse - if not deadly.
Class C drugs have so many other issues, particularly on mental health far worse than alcohol or tobacco. There are so many popular myths that are just false.
Get hold of some of the drug users help people and social workers with MANY years experience. See some of the presentation they give on the effects of such drugs - you would be put off them for life.
Id also say, that socially acceptable is not correct - its illegal. Simple. May as well say stealing is acceptable, after all it doesnt actually harm anyone does it?
Just because a certain sector of society, in a certain age group dont see an issue - does not make it right, or legal, or generally acceptable.
You are wrong, alcohol is worse than LSD, Es and weed - those are some class As and Bs.0 -
