The Maximum size for that particular drill is 10mm, for a wider\longer drill bit you need a more powerful drill like an SDS drill.

Why on earth would you want an SDS for use with an auger bit for drilling through timber? :)

    Just sayin'

    Cheers

  • as suggested the hole your drilling might be to big for the drill why not try a flat bit if not with a screw end instead of auger

    That's exactly what I do.
I've got a cheap heavy SDS drill and a variety of large cheap wood auger bits with SDS shanks. It's brilliant for drilling long large holes through timber! There's no chance of the bit slipping in the chuck or the bit getting permanently stuck in the wood. It can drill bolt-holes through big chunks of structural timber with very little effort.

You can buy wood drills of the non auger type that go quite large, and I know they fit the Bosch cordless drills. Can't you just buy a new drill bit that fits the drill?

And as said, cordless drills do not have great torque, but I've drilled a 25mm hole in a Sycamore root i.e. hard wood, using one.

generally all small cordless drill like this have 10mm chucks, they are not designed for taking large diameter bits.

if drilling timber anything bigger than 10mm likely better off using flat, auger or forstner

Probably been covered but if the drills fitted with a 10mm chuck, it's because it ain't up to the torque put on the motor by a 12mm 1.

All depends on how you abuse it of course.PS Bosch drills don't stand much abuse, not in my hands anyway ;);)
