Moved Home Broadband connection nightmare

Options
Student daughter moved into a flat in September. Previous tenant had not informed BT he was leaving and they continued to provide BT line and broadband for a while. I've been trying since then to get line and broadband over to Tesco - cheapest as I've a Tesco mobile.

Got no internet or phone line and am sick of customer service dialogue going in circles. They tell me now I can't get an engineer before mid January! They've been knocking me back every month to the next month since Sept! Waited in for an engineer last month and he didn't show. What's the betting there's a no show in Jan!

How long should this take normally?

At the end of my tether!

I work for a company that deals with phone lines, and yes, there are no engineer visits until January. BT Openreach have a monopoly on installs, they do BT, Talk Talk, PlusNet, Sky etc line installs.

If there are tags on the line then it can delay things by a month or so.
There's no automatic requirement for an engineer visit for a reconnection though, you simply have to be available on the day in case access is needed.
OR Lead time is always longer in winter/bad weather, as maintenance/repair jobs soar, and those get priority.

The tag is at the exchange so no home visit is needed. The new ISP should be able to help get this done. It is supposed to take about 10 days but BT often don't help in this situation. Report it to OfCom.
