John Lewis do have a 2 year guarantee on the iPads.

As far as customer service goes, it's really the same for both within the first year, you take it into a Apple store (or a Apple Authorised Repair Centre) and they swap it on the spot.

You can take it back to the retailer but they will send it away for repair/replacement and takes a week to 10 days, whereas a Apple store (or repair agent) will swap over in 10 minutes.

John Lewis's promotional slogan is just wishy washy, doesn't mean anything and they know they are being undersold in price.

Also, the 3rd and 4th gen have the same resolution but the 4th gen has the lightning instead of the 30 pin dock, a new processor and I believe a updated LTE if you get the cellular ones.

Also, put £1 on your Credit card, you will be protected for the FULL amount so long as each item is above £100 it doesn't matter if you pay for the entire amount on a credit card or just £1, it still covers you under Section 75.

    .

John Lewis statement is not wish washy.

They will match price on items sold by competitors providing they have a "high street" presence. They have regularly done it for me. even single outlets.

Where they do get you is by offering the "extra" warranty. If a competitor isn't throwing it in they won't match.

I say "extra" because if I was paying £400 for an ipad I wouldn't be very happy if it packed up in year 2 and we expect some goodwill to be shown.

If it was the matter of £20/30 quid between Currys and JL I know where I would be buying.

Never Knowingly undersold, to me means as soon as they find the price is cheaper it should be changed through the chain, it isn't its done only if you ask.

They know the price is cheaper at their competitors but don't change it on their system and standing by their Never Knowing undersold is just a wishy wash slogan, nothing against JL, it's just marketing speak.

    That's a good idea!

why not go to Morrisons, purchase Currys/PCWorld gift vouchers for the amount of the ipads and get a petrol voucher. I did this recently £400 in vouchers and got 40p of a litre of petrol. Well worth it :)

Well I checked out my local PCW and Tesco and they didn't have any in.

So I went to Lewis's and got them there.

I weighed up the potential money saving against the 2 year warranty and decided I'd plumb for the 2 years.

Thanks for the comments & ideas!
