I presume with your new BT connection router you would of got a CD with it to run setup of it services and new internet BT Hub

That Cd can also setup your Mailbox by adding your main Bt hub details

yes it will set your BT address as your defult email address and then you simply add the Orange email again which will be sent and received/downloaded when you want your email to outlook or whatever program your using

or if you use microsoft office 2010 use outlook to set up your email
it will test and do it all for you

    cheers

You can't send from a Orange email address if you are now on a BT server, though you can still receive (until such time as Orange switch off your address).
This is standard ISP practice to avoid spam being sent via their servers by non-customers.
All these issues are easily avoided by dumping your ISP-specific email address and using an independent one such as GMail. You can then switch ISP's as often as you like and retain the same address.

You don't need to install any BT CD. Your old Orange e-mail account outgoing settings need to be changed to use the BT SMTP server.

If you want to add your BT e-mail account simply use the BT POP3 & SMTP settings that they provide:

    Incoming Mail (POP3) Server - mail.btinternet.com
Port (usually specified in 'Advanced settings') - 110
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - mail.btinternet.com
Port (usually specified in 'Advanced Settings') - 25

SMTP authentication must be enabled as this is required by the BT server.

As Macman has said, you would be better getting new ISP independent e-mail accounts now, rather than switching from your Orange e-mail to BT e-mail - you would not have had these problems if you had been using ISP independent e-mail accounts.

Of course you can but only if you change the e-mail client to use BT's SMTP server as per post #3 as BT does not permit connection to other ISP's SMTP servers.
