Hi there, I posted a few weeks ago about getting a smart TV or youview and decided to go with the standard TV.
I am now unsure of which box to get?
I would really value any experience you have of either of the boxes please?
The FOX T2 has a web browser I think so youtube etc. is accessible?
I don't think this is possible with YouView?
I did go into Currys earlier to get some technical help but came out even more confused!!
Thanks is advance;)

YouView is the way to go. Theway the catch up players are integrated into the EPG are its USP.
It does not have YouTube access at the moment though, no reason why it shouldn't in the future though.
On the other hand there is now a remote record app available for iPhone or iPad.

Thanks, don't have iPad or iPhone. The reviews on Amazon for the Youview box don't look favourable tbh0

I trialled one for a couple of months and it was fine.
The main complaints were price and lack of wifi. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Thanks penrhyn, I know you mentioned homeplugs to me before but the guy in currys mentioned one of these

Do you know what would be best to boost connection?0 -
Homeplugs would be a much better and more reliable option. Currys staff are not well known for their technical knowledge...
You don't need to 'boost' the connection, you simply need to bring it near to your TV, assuming that your router is not nearby. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Agree with this. If you don't want to use an ethernet cable from your box to your hub/router, home plugs (or powerline adaptors, as they are also known) do the same job. As they use your homes internal electrical wiring to do the same job, exactly the same as an ethernet cable would.0 -
When I have watched some programmes via my laptop on iplayer etc. I have had streaming problems, would I get the same issue with youview?
Thanks0 -

That would depend if the issues (presumably stuttering) are due to inadequate line speed, or an issue with your laptop. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
My connection is typically around 7mbps and I had no problems with the streaming players on YouView.
Sky use a different method with the online players which gets over the problem of slow connections by downloading programmes onto the HDD. I would have thought a similar approach could have been used by Youview. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Another vote for Youview - I don't know exactly how much that other Humax is, but they're so close to the price of Youview - a nice standardised platform with the catch up stuff built in, which will be kept up to date long after manufacturers have stopped supporting other stuff - that it's worth paying the extra.0
