All, -

Handing back my company car at the end of the month and taking cash at my new company.

I am looking to spend 10k on a car that will last me for 4-5 years with little costs in maintanance etc.

I do 13,000 miles a year and am looking to purchase rather than lease....

I dont mind used as long as the thing has a good chance of costing me little!

Car needs to be OK on the motorway, have cruise control possibly bluetooth but I can retrofit.

I am thinking fiesta, the old shaped focus, i20, kia ceed or maybe a golf.... There is only me and the mrs but in a couple of years there maybe a dog or little feet!

Anyone have a view?

Much appreciated!

You could pick up a 2005 honda civic for about 4k... that'll run far longer than 4-5 years and you'll have a fair chunk of change!

Probably as reliable as a nearly new Fiesta....
Will probably last a lot longer..... even starting out 4-5 years older!

5 x 5 year old Mondeo's. Or buy one for £2000 and bank £4000 to buy 2 more just in case and spend £4000 on a sunny holiday whilst we all shiver in the Siberian winter coming.

Im gonna chuck in Honda Civic again. I'm looking to buy a 2008/2009 model for £6000 in the new year. I will be buying Diesel which will have cruise control, im gonna look for one with built in sat nav, room for 5 adults and the dog, far more comfortable than a fiesta for a man of my size. I was offered the new shape fiesta as a company car and turned it down as it was uncomfortable for me

Think you might struggle to get a good example for £6k unless you're willing to look at very high miles - If I was selling my 57 plate EX (which has the nav etc) privately I would be looking for £5.5-6k- If you're after a 2 year newer car with lowish miles and purchasing from a trader I would be surprised if you can find a well looked after example for that cash, would have thought a 2009 car would be more like £7-7.5k

For the OP though yes the civic is worth considering - I'd buy one that's had a 2009+ clutch fitted as these are made of slightly stronger chocolate than the originals.
