hi everyone, Im trying out something new this year and Im hoping it works, so Im allowing myself 2.00 a day and as I get paid every four weeks it equates to 56.00 for the four week period starting tomorrow as thats when I get paid, but it is 62.00 in total for the month of January so I will go with that please:)

Any excess will go towards paying debts off. I will start a menu plan next week when my DD2 has gone back home overseas, when I can do it properly, I should have enough food in so they shouldnt cause a problem, it should only be milk and bread, so should be able to keep within the 2.00 a day

    Sorry for ramble

  • Hi everyone hope you all had a fantastic xmas and big thanks to those that help set up and run the thread each month.

Since i seem to have overfilled the fridge and freezer this xmas i will be on a big eat up so things dont go to waste in January, so a very frugal budget of £50 for me.
Consolidated and under control 42 payments to go.

I have leftover mulled wine, any ideas on how to use it would be very welcome!
  • Can I join in without a budget yet? We only have Waitrose, M&S or co-op though so not sure I'll ever have much to offer?

However the recipe only called for a small amount of passata, any ideas for what to do with the rest of the carton? Is it better to buy jars even though they are more expensive? Appreciate any ideas, thanks!

I'd pop it into a plastic container and freeze it - have done this before and its ok when thawed.

Right, I'm determined to make January a really frugal month on all fronts so I can get some extra savings in the bank.
So with regards to grocery shopping its a 5 shop month for me and the dog so I'm going to budget £125 (£25 a week).
This is for all food (including packed lunches), dog food, toiletries, laundry, household and cleaning stuff.

I've just come back from my parent's for Xmas and won't be working again until Jan 7th (teacher) so I have plenty of time to make things for the freezer and shop around.
There's no F&V in the house but there's bits and pieces in the cupboards and freezer so I think that this week I'll just buy some fresh bits and dog food from the local shops tomorrow to tide me over to next weekend.

Will report back with the damage....;)
