Its been a a while since i had one done...but it was upwards of 500 and that was a few years back.
That’s where the 800 figure came from i figured it must have gone up be more because this is a newer car too.
But i will get a quote this weekend.
Thankyou
You got fleeced then too?
I've a guy going to check how long is allowed by vauxhall to change the belt and you can work out from there, but i'd estimate a day overall.
Generally i pay no more than around £200 - £250 all in, allowing £120-140 for a kit including water pump and a days labour.
For simpler setups only needing a belt and not replacing the water pump i've paid as little as £60 fitted - say for a Vectra 1.8 petrol.0 -
It IS a timing belt for the record. Definitively. Have sold about 30 cars over the last couple of years with that engine. Have one at the minute. Have had about 5 changed.
If you'd mentioned that previously it would have given you a bit more credibility.
Either way, I was simply looking out for the op (as were you) and didn't want to see something as important as a belt be misdiagnosed etc.0 -

I didnt realise my credibility by anyone other than you was in question?
If it was in doubt to you, then you could have had a look at my profile - it says ex motor trader.
Also, everyone else was saying it was a belt too - specifically, owners of the cars.
Also, maybe if you'd taken time to read my post you'd have seen that maybe i knew a bit about vauxhalls, or did you think i made all that up about when certain engines were introduced?0 -
Hi Everyone,
Thank you for all your replies.
I stand corrected, I have been around a few garages this am and I have been quoted £380ish from the dealer and around the £200/220 mark from the Indi garages.
Will book it in for next week.:jTo be Young AGAIN!!!!...what a wonderfull thought!!!!!:rolleyes:0 -

Had just come back on to say similar - i've one going up to my mechanic for a belt and water pump and hes reckoning probably £200-£240 for the whole thing done including parts.0 -
All done....:)
Cam Belt Kit
Water pump
Thermostat
For the pricy sum of £300....happy happy happy.
Fingers crossed it should now run for a good few years now until 200+K with no serious issues.....
But to be honest the past few cars I've had...the issue has never been the engine....(i normally service that regularly)...it's always he bodies that die...:(.
The last one the (Citroen) the hydronic suspension failed....the repair costs were not worth it.
The one before that we'll where do I start...the worst was the exhaust....snapped off...needed one with a cat..so no way hosed....:)...
Lets see how long this one lasts before the body gives up the ghost...:jTo be Young AGAIN!!!!...what a wonderfull thought!!!!!:rolleyes:0 -

depends on the car
some cars require and engine out for a belt
some can easily be accessed and done with little labour
some cars have even been known to be able to do the belt by cutting in half round its length
slide on the new belt
cut the old one and slide the new belt fully home!0
