Timing Belt on 2006 Vectra 1.9 CDTi

The water pump is a weak point on the 1.9 engine and should be changed when the cam belt is changed.0

I'm not sure but the best answer would come from a dealer, why not ring your local dealer up and give them the reg and they will be able to tell you for sure. Or check the manual if you have it.
lol.
Just open the bonnet and have a look? belt system is exposed to air, chain system in is an enclosed unit. If you can see the belt it's conclusive that you have a belt system. But if it's not visible and there's no opening at all then its chain.0 -

What the.. ? If its not visible at all then it's a chain.. You realise that describes many cambelt covers in many cars don't you? To someone who hasn't got a clue what they're really looking at you've just turned half the cambelts in the country into timing chains0 -
its not the timing belt that kills it its the water pump that stops working right and kicks the belt off ,they say at about 40 to 60k when it happens on bad ones (not all do)
they do on the astras with the 19cdti 150there or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0 -

No seriously, I've had people tell me things with 100% certainty and cast iron guarantees when it comes to servicing my car and I've still had to collect it from several garages with embarrassed faces when they've had to admit they were wrong, couldn't do the job, it wasn't as easy as they thought etc.
It's all too easy for anyone online to be an expert and yet completely blameless when it all goes belly up. Like I said, the only real way to be 100% certain is to ring the dealer. You could be anyone giving wrong advice just for kicks (sorry, no offence but it's true).
Well i guess we may just have the whole forum shut down, as people come on here for opinions from others so drawing your statement to its logical conclusion, theres no point in posing a question on a forum as you wont get a 100% certain answer?
It IS a timing belt for the record. Definitively. Have sold about 30 cars over the last couple of years with that engine. Have one at the minute. Have had about 5 changed.0 -

lol. Genius you are. Costly mistakes could be done here if the person doesn't know what they are looking for.0 -
Evening,
Thank you for your feedback.
To be honest since I've had the car, roughly 2 years. It's a 2006 vectra 150 bhp. It was a ex company car.
It now has 125k on the clock. I've changed both front bearings, clutch and fly wheel and now it needs a new thermostat too as its running at around 70/75 degrees.
I know I should have changed the timing belt well before this, but its expensive getting one of them things done...:(.... So I've been putting it off.
Guess its time to fork out the 800+ to get it done.........:(...bu**er...there goes the holiday fund.....guess I'm spending the week working rather then sun bathing....:jTo be Young AGAIN!!!!...what a wonderfull thought!!!!!:rolleyes:0 -

Not a guess, it is over due, but where do you get £800 from, it's £249 at a VX dealer:

It should seriously cost you no more than about £300 tops to get it done. In fact even £250 sounds expensive. Price around and find a decent small indy who will do the work for you.
Seriously get it done ASAP. You are sitting on a time bomb and it could be a very short fuse.... :eek:0 -
Ummmmmmm...that sounds cheap to me at around 250/300.
Its been a a while since i had one done...but it was upwards of 500 and that was a few years back.
That’s where the 800 figure came from i figured it must have gone up be more because this is a newer car too.
But i will get a quote this weekend.
Thankyou:jTo be Young AGAIN!!!!...what a wonderfull thought!!!!!:rolleyes:0
