Help with Sky Bill

I just wondered if anyone can give me some advice please.
On 29/11/12 I phoned Sky to pay my bill and get service restored.
I spoke to a female advisor who restored my services and stated there was nothing to pay at present as I have added a DD and the next bill amount is £156 due on 01/01/13 - to cover the two months.
Great, so I thought.
Monday 03/12/12 - Sky try to take £166 from my account but as I had moved money out it failed.
I receive an email from Sky stating the bill is now due.
I diligently email them so I have written evidence and explain the above.
I have an email from them saying that when I called on the 29/11/12 my balance was £0.00 and that they tried to take a DD on 03/12/12 for £166 and the advisor was right my next bill would be £156.
So I reply again saying that is twice you have told me I had nothing to pay when I called so why have you tried to take money out of my account and it failed (informed them I want the charge paid by them).
I have had a snooty reply saying I have to pay the £166 for services provided and nothing about the fact I tried to pay but was told there was nothing to pay.
Other than moral high ground, is there anything I can do/say/quote?

I think you need to explain more about this part of your post to help with advising - if you were disconnected etc, this would have a bearing on how soon the amount is due, if you were reconnected then you would be required to pay the outstanding balance.
A bit more explanation is needed to fully understand the situation to be able to advise.0 -
Why was your service 'restored'? If you were disconnected for non-payment, then Sky will take the reconnection charge plus the 1st month's charges before reconnecting surely-you are always billed one month in advance. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Yes disconnected due to the fact I could t pay As we had an unexpected bill which took priority over sky.
Once I had the money I phoned to pay and get services restored. The advisor said I didn't have anything to pay until Jan and didn't take an payment over the phone.
This is why I am confused to where I stand. On the phone she restored my service but didn't take any payment and then I get emails about owing money 4 days later?! The first email states I owed £0.00 at the time I called - quoted from the representative for sky!
Thanks for help.0 -
You need to speak to Sky then. Often once you've been disconnected, they will then insist on an extra month in advance, so there is always effectively a month's credit in place.
There is also a reconnection charge.
If money is so tight, why pay £936pa for subscription TV though? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Cut your subscription down a bit, if costs are high. they may offer you discounted rates if you try to take some off.0

It truly amazes me that people who cannot afford it, pay £100's a month to Sky for the privilege of watching TV.
Freeview is free. So also is Freesat or Freesat from Sky where you use your existing disabled Sky card to watch TV programmes
You don't need to pay Sky any money to watch TV programmes.
And you don't even need to record programmes if you miss them, with a good internet connection and a proxy server you can watch probably any programme you want.0
