SKY or Virgin Media?

Options
Hey everyone

Need some advice....

Been with sky for a few years and we moved into our new build home last year and automatically went with sky. Contract is now up...Our bundle includes bb unlimited, basic telephone line and the basic tv packae. Spoke to someone at sky on retentions and was offered removal of hd package and 10% on the tv package...So monthly cost would be around £37

With it being a newbuild development open reach haven't upgraded the green box, so we can only have standard bb with most providers (inc sky). But it has been set up for virgin fibre...

Had a quick look at the website, think would go for BB L (30 meg one), M+ for tv and m for phone, so it comes in at £40.99 a month. Install could be booked in for 28th December.

Can't decide whether to switch as I have heard mixed reviews from virgin (same with sky etc) but wanting to know if I will be losing out on any major channels from sky with the above? or if i'm better waiting to see if they do any promo deals?

You can't get Sky Atlantic on Virgin, for me that would be enough of a reason not to move.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Used both systems. I'd take Virgin over Sky anytime. Stuff Sky Atlantic - I see enough American carp as it is.

I think when you google it you will find some people have had problems with Sky and some problems with Virgin whilst other people have no issues at all.

Personally I have had no problems with Virgin and would highly recommend it. I have the V+ box but I understand the new Tivo box is very good and has the 1TB capacity. The system is much more straight forward than sky and the movies on demand system and the catch-up TV are very good.

The only reasons I would personally consider moving to Sky - Sky Atlantic (but if there's anything I really want to watch I can get the box set) and Sky have the Sky Anywhere app which may be a consideration if you use it.

decided to give sky retentions another go - could only offer me £2.50 off my bb, so i declined. just ordered virgin with install date of 28th, chap was quite pushy about getting me to sign up for the xl tv package which i wasn't going to get

bit wary of 18month contract but atlast i can get fibre optic bb :D

It's fibre to the cabinet, not to the home.

Virgin BB is the bees knees - Sky need BT so is just the carp ADSL that all the other providers use. I prefer dealing with the organ-grinder, than the monkey, and cannot fault my 60Mb connection, or the price charged for it.

Me too - just took Sky TV (hating the lost of the third tuner on their box mind) - kept VM for the BB and even kept the TiVO for upstairs.

Hybrid of the two suits me, at least for the next 12 months...
