Paypal Payment

Hi,
I dont know if anyone can help, I sold an item on ebay and the winner was a person with 0 feedback, they paid using paypal immediately, the address is in the UK, I checked the voters register and there is a person who lives at the paypal address quoted by that name, the address is confirmed. What happens if I send the item and they cancel the payment, what can I do, has anyone else had an experience like this.
Cheers
Steve

i'd ask politley for them to send payment using another method

bank transfer is quick, and safe, and costs nothing

if its a low value item, risk paypal, if its high value, you're blimmin stupid if you ship

refer to paypalwarning , aboutpaypal and various other sites
    money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

  • From what the OP has already said then I don't see there being too much of a problem. The address is confirmed, according to the voters register the person lives there so thats fine.

If you're still nervous then I'd send it by a trackable method (recorded mail or special delivery) and clear all funds into your bank account.

And as far as I am aware, buyers can't cancel payments once they have been sent
    Titch :)

    Me too....

So what am I missing? He paid, you've verified the address, surely all you need to do is get a proof of posting (free) in case of a chargeback claim.

However, if there is something else, I really would like to know :D

P.S. How did you verify the name and address?

like the other replies you have done all the right things by making sure the payment looks good so you should go ahead and ship.

Remember though to either use a trackable method of postage, or get a certificate of postage from the post office to cover yourself even further. If the buyer should then claim non receipt you can either prove delivery using the tracking number, or just refund him and claim back from the post office yourself using the COP.

Although I have never had a problem with paypal, I still tend to withdraw my funds as soon as I can rather than build up a balance.

    Soo

Am i missing something here? I don't understand why you offered paypal if you didn't want people to pay using it...

I suggest just the same as others and send recorded/special delivery to cover yourself from a chargeback
  • Hi,
Thanks for all of your help, I checked on the voters register on 192.com it tells you if someone by the name live in that town. The item sold for £130 and I did state in the auction that the buyer must not have a rating of 0 feedback, that is why I am dubious. It says I am eligible for sellers protection, so I assume everything will be ok. Is it correct that once the funds are withdrawn from you paypal account that they cant take it back?

They can take it from any funds that you receive into your paypal account (from your next sales) if you withdraw to your bank. Seeing as it's worth so much I would definitely send special delivery and then everything should be fine :)

Soolin, withdrawing your funds from paypal doesn't mean diddly, as i have a paypal transaction gone bad and the just simply made my balance -£430. I would imagine at some point they will press me to cover that, and i have heard they are persistent when people owe them money.

Also in the small print of paypal does it not say in the event of a problem you must not only provide a tracking number for postage, but a signature showing it was delivered to that addy? Royal mail special delivery does that but there is a weight limit with them. Standard parcels has a tracking number but no signature required....

Standard Parcels does not have a tracking number any more. In fact it was not a tracking number originally but an internal number for Royal Mail if the parcel went missing. For heavier items I would suggest using a different carrier like parcel force that can be tracked online.
