Well since then the job centre have lost my paperwork and then informed me that I'm not entitled to anything (probably due to missing paperwork...)
What a total shambles.
Agreethough I just wanted to add that one of the reasons you are asked all of the questions you were is to see if you are entitled to an income based top up/CTB/HB/Housing costs etc etc.
Imagine the same scenario as you were in but the person had no other household income/savings to fall back on. If they were only assessed for contribution based JSA then they would be in a right pickle.0 -
I am redundant in 3 weeks. I realised a long time ago, that I am on my own. Forget that you have paid continual NI contributions for 30 years. The first time you are out of work you are expecting to be treated as a scrounger-and what I read here confirms this.0

Hi, can anyone clarify a few details for me please as i am confused. My husband was made redundant 21.12.12. as the company has gone into receivership. He was advised that he would receive statutory redundancy pay, his week lying on money and 11 weeks notice. He was advised that he make an appointment at the job centre asap to claim JSA. He has his appointment tomorrow. He has luckily already secured another job and is due to start this on Monday. We have been advised that he still needs to attend the appointment with the dole. Is this right? Also does anyone know if he still gets paid his notice money if he has found another job. Some of the lads he worked with have said that he will loose this and that they are not going to start looking for a job until the notice period runs out. My husband is a bit of a worrier and couldn't do this even if he wanted to. Are these people right? I'm not wanting to sound like we are money grabbing or anything because we are not, I just want to know what is correct and true.Many thanks for reading this0

I thought that savings would only affect means tested JSA, not contribution based? I know that pensions can affect it but I didn't think savings came into it. Can anyone clarify?3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -

I think this is correct, otherwise many made redundant would get nothing which is clearly not the case.
income is, but even then AIUI not all sources so earned(but not all) and pensions but not, dividends or savings interest, or non earned income like rental properties lodgers.
I tried to find the rules online but not easy this part of the .gov info is well hidden.0 -
