    SKI = Squandering Kid's Inheritance

Yes! We are about to begin SKI-ing in the very near future!

(Although to be fair, we have told him he will probably get the UK house, but money, proceeds from Spanish house and anything else we might have we will ENJOY!!).

My parents worked hard to put a roof over my head when I was too young to work for myself, they put me through university and gave me the best start in life. Believe it or not this is the best thing that the OP could do for her children. They may never afford to buy a house but she will have done what she can for them.

There are other ways to help your child, my parents don't have money to give me but they give me support and a roof over my head while I work for my own place. I put aside half my earnings into savings in the vain hope that one day I'll be able to afford a place of my own but I would much rather have my grandparents and parents in my life than have the money in their estate.

Interesting perspective - I've mixed feelings on it. We (twentysomethings) bear a financial burden unrivalled by our parents' generation true, yet at times when I'm feeling grumpy about my student loan repayments/how cripplingly hard its been to buy our first home/how my tax contributions are being swallowed up/how state pensions are some sort of quaint tale from the past/how our salaries are not rising with inflation, I just think about how my relatives only a few generations back lived in desparate poverty in the slums of Bethnal Green and how proud they would be of how well their blood line has done since then :)

Agree with this - I think every generation has its fair share of woes.

My grandparents had WW2 to live through (and fight in for the sake of our freedom), my parents have suffered economic crashes and housing crashes, and now my generation has a huge property ladder to climb with rising tuition fees and other costs.

But you get by. If we couldn't afford houses, there would be a property crash.

If this is the case then what is the point of your OP?

Because she wanted someone to pat her back and tell her that her vulgarity, greed and bitterness were acceptable.

Oh right, I thought you were skiing down the slopes.

Is SKI a common acronym for the silver surfers, didn't know that if it is ??

Ps: There was an ad on TV here, youngish spinster in big country house, son visits & says "I hope you are not squandering money/inheritance", she looks to the garden where young hunk is working, she says "no I'm spending it on Pablo" (some Spanish name), son looks to Pablo in horror (as he sees his inheritance disappearing).

My grandparents are always going on about leaving me something in their will. I hate it when they talk about that, as I'd much rather have them live for another 20 years (unlikely, alas, as they are both 88).

I am really shocked that the OP would be so shameless about her opinions - I find her attitude terrible.

I read the first post with increasing disbelief.

I am constantly telling my own parents and in-laws to spend their savings, because IT'S THEIR MONEY. The kids all have their own homes (modest ones I might add) we all have jobs, (boring, run of the mill, not exciting, big-money jobs)

Why on earth would we expect a big handout from someone who has managed to scrimp and save their way through wars, property crashes, illness and despair, and who are perfectly content with each other, without needing to inject huge amounts of cash to provide contentment.

I think I would be encouraging them to enjoy their life together in the way that gives them most pleasure. They seem to have found the secret to happiness, as they are quite happy with things the way they are.

Maybe they consider the OP's lifestyle to be a tad extravagant! Maybe if the OP adopted their lifestyle then they too might have thousands in the bank and wouldn't need to be relying on money earned by someone else.

Really sorry if this sounds harsh, but I can't believe that family can think this way about it's own!
:hello:  please play nicely children !

I see alot of words have been thrown about.

But some that are missing are spiteful, vindictive and malicious. And I'm not referring to the OP. :)
