Hotel Car Valet parking - hotel forgot to move car

Hi all I hope this is posted in the correct section - i apologise if it isnt feel free to move
Recently at a stay at a well known hotel chain I chose to use their valet parking service - basically the hotel took my keys, didnt move my car and it was towed away 2 hours later - i didnt know this until the following morning when i reqeusted my car and they couldnt find it in the local carpark they used, evenutually they traced it to a pound and they did escort me across the city in a taxi and paid to retrieve it - they are refunding my parking charge and have invited me back to stay free for a night (this offer was when they thought they had just not filled in the envelope properly which should indicate where my car was parked and the location and the delay which turned out to be a couple of hours)
interested in your thoughts and comments, is a refund of my parking fee and a free night acceptable for this ?
many thanks in advance

  • Must admit I would be quite happy with that for a resolution, some hotels might not have been as generous as that.

  • Seems reasonable, they've covered all actual losses and given a free night on top

    Let me get this right:

They paid the compound and towing fee.
    They refunded your parking charges
They are offering a free night's stay

So all you have actually paid for is the night that you did stay? You are not out of pocket in any way, except some time to locate the vehicle?

thanks for all the comments folks :)
  • Who towed the car away?
"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"
  • Sounds fair to me
  • What else would you like?

Ask the hotel whether they can give you what you want (free meals when you are there)?

It seems reasonable what they have done so far.
    Thinking critically since 1996....
  • The free night offer is great if it means you can stay in any hotel that they own.

the council as it was parked on a double yellow line (the bay outside the hotel where you park then the porters take your luggage and keys and should move within 10 minutes) - it was left 2 hours on a mega busy street in a city. Somehow it was missed and they left it there, their records show I handed the keys in at 12.05 and then the council issued a ticket at 1.45pm with a 20 minute warning and then it was towed (or lifted and carried away) at 2.15, like i say they offered to pay the valet parking fee of £25 after about 30 minutes of looking for the car and then a while later invited me back as a goodwill gesture as they had no idea where my car was, then when it was looking bleak that they would ever find it someone said they saw a car like mine being taken away .... they then called whoever who confirmed it had been taken to a pound - many hours later i finally got it released
