Worth Staying With VirginMedia?

Options
Can anyone advise if I am on a good deal with VirgnMedia? I currently pay between £36.50 a month (excluding phone charges) for TV (M+), Broadband (L) and phone (Evening and Weekends). This includes a £9 loyality discount. With call costs I usually end up paying £42-£45. I have tried using a phone overide provider but it is hard to get other household members to use this and the phone is only used occasionally anyway.
After the latest price rises I am considering going elsewhere when my contract is up, however I don’t have a BT landline point or a TV ariel so really I can’t see how I could go elsewhere without incurring some hefty outgoings and interupption to our services. I am also really happy with their broadband and TV service. The landline does seem expensive but we do need one in our household.
Does anyone have any ideas of alternatives, even if it is just a way to try and haggle virgin down at renewal?

VM's telephony is the most expensive around. If you are paying an additional £5.50 to £8.50pm for exclusive calls, would you not be better off switching your phone to an Anytime package? Normally about a fiver extra.
Switching to ADSL broadband or an aerial or satellite based TV system will not involve any downtime, but you will need a BT-based line installing or reconnecting in order to get any other broadband service.
Price up your LLLU options with the help of https://www.samknows.com and use that price to haggle with. VM don't know that you don't have a BT line...
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Considering most folk would die for a cable BB connection, the prospect of switching to the ADSL kludge and lower speeds is shooting yourself in the foot.

Drop the TV package to the lowest level (Basic) and I think you'll save £10-14pm.
  • Sound advice both. Thanks for the tips.

M+ is the lowest TV package Virgin offer.

Some customers have M from the "olden days" but it's not been avaliabel to new customers for ages, and if you upgrade from it the you can't downgrade to M, only M+

I got offered M by retentions on Monday...didn't take it though.
  • Virgin still do M, but it is not part of their standard package. You either have to call you for a custom made deal (if you're a new customer) or downgrade your package (if you're an existing customer).

It includes all the Freeview channels including 4 in HD.
