Any non-standing charge gas suppliers
My electricity is locked in to a different supplier but I'm looking for a new gas provider to supply around £20 worth of gas per year to my kitchen hob that doesn't have a daily standing charge. Obviously with this level of spend I don't mind locking it in. I'm currently with E.ON EnergyOnline who are adding a 27.4p charge per day from 18th January.
I've searched but I'm not having much luck. Anyone know of any gas suppliers with no standing charge .....
Thanks.

Although if you are willing to play the system then Npower with it's annual direct debit discount would be cheaper but they'll still make you pay £5 per month. Then you need to ask for the money back after they have credited your account.....I'd go with Ebico for the less hassle.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Whilst Ebico would be best, any tariff with a tier1/tier2 price structure would still be way better than a Daily Standing Charge.0

Many thanks.
Switched to ebico.0 -

Why are E.on adding a daily standing charge?
I thought they said those customers currently not on a daily standing charge can remain that way. Or was I mistaken?0 -

You don't say which region you are in, but checking a comparison site in the Eastern region for £20 worth of gas from Ebico indicates nPower would probably have been your best bet.
No daily standing charge, but 2 tier charging as you presumably are already on with E.on. On top of that, they offer £57.75 annual discount.
Yes they would actually pay you about £30 a year to use their gas!
(For the sake of £5.25 per year you could opt to pay them quarterly by DD, so avoid any issues with overpriced monthly payments - they'd still be paying you about £25 a year to use their gas)0 -
Every company has a standing charge, it just depends on if it is already built into the unit price or not. It's basically just a marketing tool.
If you do a comparison based on your annual kwh usage that will give you the most accurate idea of what is the best tariff and company for you rather than focusing on the standing charge.0 -

A standing charge in this industry is well known shorthand for a daily standing charge. a charge applied on a daily basis irrespective of how much or how little energy is actually consumed.0 -
Yes, a standing charge is a standard daily amount, but what I'm saying is that all companies have one. Some have a seperate standing charge which is quoted on the bill, and other companies have it built into the unit rates. Either way, it's still a standing charge that you'll pay.0

Thanks for the interest and advice.
I'm in Hampshire.
I switched from dual fuel a couple of months ago at the end of my old eon contract. Electric went to Scottish Power fixed unitl January 2014 at a great saving over the then current eon rate and the gas went to eon energyonline.
Today I received a letter from eon telling me that the gas prices were going up from 18th January and my eagle-eyed wife noticed that under "your new prices" it has a new line which is 27.395 per day standing charge with gas unit prices reducing. I guess it was designed to be missed .... don't know if they'll be some who do miss it.
For someone currently spending around £20'ish for gas hob that standing charge is a pretty big hike.0 -
......as eon have added a monthly charge. ... isn't it almost certain that npower will follow?0
