Car hit mine and drove off

It is an offence for the driver of a motor vehicle to fail to report an accident within 24 hours of it happening if details have not been exchanged.
If you had a protected no claims, then no, you won't lose your no claims discount
Best thing is to go into the police station to report it so that if someone has reported their side of it, the two reports can be linked0 -
we did report it the next day to the police and they sad the same things, but not to hold out much hope.
just spoke to the MIB and they said they can do nothing for a property damage claim without the other parties details.
so it looks we will have to go through our insurance to pay for it.0 -

You are the victim of a fail-to-stop accident. The other driver has committed an offence.
It's possible (though unlikely) that someone has reported to the police that they hit a parked car and there was no-one around to exchange details with.
It's also possible (but again unlikely) that the police found a stolen car or a drunk driver in the area with some unexplained accident damage.
In either case it could mean you get some else's insurance to pay for the damage:)
I wouldn't get your hopes up with the police, they went interested when this happened to me even tho I had a witness who could tell time and colour/sort of time and there's a big CCTV camera on the junction it drove through 100 yds down the road.
Also we were told that I couldn't claim from MIB as we didn't know the driver
I had to claim off my own insurance and my car was written off. I had protected no claims so didn't lose that but my premiums have rocketed up again0 -
Ditto. A taxi (private hire) ran into the back of me whilst leaving a local ASDA. After surveying my crumpled bumper, we had got quite a queue building up so he suggested we pull out and exchange details. As I cleared the junction, he pulled forward and turned back into the car park where I lost him due to the amount of traffic turning in.
The police could do nothing without a VRM, a check on the ASDA CCTV showed they had no coverage of the incident so I was stuffed. The police advised this is becoming increasingly a major issue with 2-3 incidents of drive offs being reported to them weekly.
I had my own in-car DVR which always records - but it only faces forward and saw nothing. It also had its view blocked when it drove off. I've now invested in a 2-cam system which with hindsight, I should have had from the start.
I've notified by insurer, but I'm taking the hit myself as the cost will be less. The police also advised in a similar circumstance, you do NOT move, but call them as this would have prevented his departure.
Like me, you'll have to pay the cost for them not knowing who to claim against.0 -
£300 excess to pay for damage claim from an untraced driver.
But damage claims will only be considered if the vehicle is identified, which it wasn't in this case.
