a car hit mine then drove off outside my house, we have tried to look through cctv and not found anything so there is little chance of finding the third party.
the amount of damage equates to £1800 worth.
will i loose my NCB if i claim this through the insurance?
i don't see why i should as its not my fault, but i do know how reluctant insurance companies are to pay out money
thank you in advance

This happened to me, I had to claim on my own insurance and lost 2 years of my NCB.0

You will lose some NCD and your premiums will rise
Is there a lot of damage. You have to weigh up the costs.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
If you claim off of your insurance then it is a fault claim. Insurers work on the basis of if they manage to recover their outlay or not and not anything to do with blame.
You may want to look at claiming from the MIB's Untraced Driver Agreement that would preserve your NCD but a £300 excess is payable (see http://www.mib.org.uk/Customer+Services/en/Accidents+in+the+UK/Untraced+Drivers+Agreement/Untraced+Agreement.htm). As they technically represent the other driver they arent necessarily going to be as nice and friendly as your insurers may be0 -
You will also have to pay your excess.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0

thank you for the reply
it does need to be fixed i only bought the car two weeks ago for my girlfriend as a xmas present.
the excess is £300 anyway on our insurance so if we can at least save our NCB that would be something0 -

Dont get too many mines in this country. It did well to drive offI am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Worth a look but I'm pretty sure there is no excess any more but the big stumbling block is going to be the need to identify either the driver or the car. Without one or the other the MIB can do nothing
Which insurer were you think of re the "nice & friendly" bit?0 -
You should report this to the police.
You are the victim of a fail-to-stop accident. The other driver has committed an offence.
It's possible (though unlikely) that someone has reported to the police that they hit a parked car and there was no-one around to exchange details with.
It's also possible (but again unlikely) that the police found a stolen car or a drunk driver in the area with some unexplained accident damage.
In either case it could mean you get some else's insurance to pay for the damage:)We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
