Sytner Audi fiasco and cargiant

How old is the TT? If under three years it ought to be covered by Audi waranty.
You may know nothing about cars, but surely you know to ask for an estimate before work is done? If you smell a rat go elsewhere.2007 reg. If the car was paid off in total, things would be different. The situation is so complicated due to the warranty, cargiant and then Sytner all being in this together. As I was saying, they never give you a straight answer. You could ask them for an estimate all day long, they still wouldn't tell you. The problem was that the car couldn't be taken elsewhere, because it was taken apart in the Sytner workshop when the s**t started in regards to 'Audi will cover 100%', 'Audi will cover 30%'.

My...Modern cars are more trouble than they are worth..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

So so true! Husband's old 1994 Honda Prelude passed every single MOT with flying colors and took us all the way on a road trip from London to Switzerland and back. Should've never let him sell it0 -
Yup I know-lunacy! I wonder whether they have fixed rates, like when you go to the hairdresser's-the prices are clearly displayed and you know what you'll be paying for beforehand. Or do they just look at you, your clothes, your nationality ('aha they come from somewhere East, must have money'), your address and subsequently decide what to charge you?
The engine is a 3.2 Quattro (I guess the 'Quattro' bit relates to the engine, please forgive my stupidity if I am wrong, I don't work with cars so pretty much know absolutely nothing about them except how to drive one lol).
I'm not a mechanic either but I'm fairly sure that a 2007 3.2 doesn't have a belt, it has a chain, which makes your quote even more bizarre. AFAIK they don't need changing unless there's a definite problem specific to the chain or the engine is v high mileage, but if they do the cost is likely a bit more than I said but still way way less than you've been quoted.0 -

That was very very helpful, I will definitely use this bit of knowledge as a weapon! :T0 -
Thanks everyone for your replies, you've helped me a great deal!0

Not an expert but does the sale of goods act not give you some comeback against cargiant? You have a right to expect a car to be fit for purpose relative to the age / mileage.
Anyway, Syntner are a large group so I would raise this with their head office, but also if Audi have been involved in some kind of goodwill gesture (which surprises me on a 5 year old car purchased outside of the dealer network.....) then I would contact their customer services who should be able to tell you exactly what they have / have not agreed to with syntner.
You also mentioned the car was on finance so they have joint liability with Cargiant - "suggest" to them that as vehicle is not fit for purpose you want to return it to them.0 -
I had a Cargiant warranty on a Lexus once which specifically stated it covered the radiator. When the radiator went they pointed me to the small print which said "does not cover anything that comes into contact with water".
Never again.Can I help?0 -
nat - the Quattro part refers to the TT having 4 wheel drive. You kindof should know that if you drive the car.
If you're not getting satisfaction from an authorised Audi dealer (that's what Sytner is, and is as close to 'going to Audi' as you can get), then write a letter to Audi UK head office, I'm sure you can poke about their website and find out. Leave out the 'slimey' bits and stick to the facts though.0 -
Yes I know I should. I will brush up on my knowledge.
Writing a letter to Audi UK is a good idea, thanks.
The 'slimy' stuff was said in affect, but to be quite honest, if you are asked to pay thousands of pounds (literally), you expect decent service in return.0
