Cost to replace oil boiler

Hi,
Hoping someone can give me some advice. We currently have a Thermicon oil boiler which we have had for about eighteen years. We have the boiler serviced regularly. Every year for the last four or five years it starts to play up when it gets cold, locking out etc. Our engineer thinks its time for a new boiler but he doesn't actually fit them so was hoping someone might be able to give us a rough idea how much it would cost to fit a new one, it would be going in the same place as the old one. Also any recommendations for makes, our guy has suggested a Grant Vortex but I have read some bad reviews on them. Any advice would be appreciated

Are you sure that you need a new one? Has your engineer said what the problem is? In my view corrosion is the killer - if it isn't leaking then anything else can be fixed. Our Thermecon is 16 years old and so far had needed very little in the way of repairs - a new pump bearing quite early on is all that I can recall.
I think that you're looking at ca. £3000 for a new oil-fired boiler nowadays as they're all condensing type entailing additional cost, complexity and maintenance.0 -

Thanks for your reply. To be honest our boiler has been troublesome from the beginning, just unlucky I guess. We used to have it serviced around now but could almost guarantee it would start locking out shortly afterwards so moved the service to the summer.0 -
Our boiler is the same age and the service engineer says we should hang on to it as long as we can because boilers nowadays might be slightly more energy efficient but arent as well made. Might be nonsense but we just keep crossing our fingers that it keeps going!
The one thing I do know from a family member needing a new gas boiler is that quotes vary massively - from £2500 to £4000 in her case so definitely shop around.
