Attempted to send a recording via email

Hi Techies,

I recently attended a workshop and I recorded it using my new ipod. It is 1 hour and 47 mins long. A couple of the attendees asked me to send them a copy of it so I downloaded onto my MacBook and attached it to an email. The attachment process took a long time (probably about 10 mins) and then an error message appeared "Since this file will put you over the 25.0 MB limit of attachments per message, please remove some of the other attachments and then try adding this one again."

If there is a solution to this problem I'd appreciate your advice.

Upload it to YouSendIt using their Free option and send the resulting link to them via email.
When they click on the link, it will begin a download of your uploaded file.

Load it into an audio editing program such as Audacity, and split it into smaller parts for emailing separately.

What format is the audio file ?
ie Is it a mp3 or something else (wav, ogg, wma...) ?
I suggest that you convert it to an WMA or MP3 and compress it - you may be able to get it to less than 25Mb (with some loss of clarity - but whether this matters is dependant on the type of recording - speech should compress without noticeable loss - but music may be more noticeable)
  • I believe it's MP3 format and it's speech.

I suggest that you try compressing it to see what it sounds like....

You don't seem to understand that MP3 is already heavily compressed!

Email is not for sending large files, the obvious solution was given in post #2.

Another option would something like Dropbox. Online storage that you can access anywhere in the world. You can create shared folder to allow other people access to just that folder
Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j

    I second this.
The other suggestions have no real merit (Dropbox being the exception).

Even if you can reduce the file size to say 24.99MB and send it, your recipients may well still not be able to receive it, as their ISP's may impose a lower limit than 25MB-each is different.
That's why using a site such as YouSendIt is the quick and sensible solution.

  • Put it on a CD and post it.
