Bought a N73 but can I change the fascia?
I bought a N73 which came with a Nokia Black fascia which I want to put on, it comes with instructions and some orange thing to open the fascia, but last time I change a fascia (k750i) I broke the phone, is it risky to change the fascia?
How much would shops charge?

THey should only charge a couple of quid at the most, if you take it to an unlocking/repair shop that sells facias then I'm sure they will do it for you as they will ahve the right tools. I know we dont advertise that we do it but happily do it usually for free.0 -
Mate said they can charge around £20?
I would happily pay £10 for it no more. How can you do it? WOuld I need to send it off? Im in London, so , dont think I can come to you?0 -

£20 is a bit steep !! I'm in stockport which is a long way away and the psotageg will be a fair few quid, I dont know if they are based near you but try these mobyrepairs@blueyonder.co.uk user james-73 works for them they might be close to you, if not give me a shout and will try and work something out.0 -
If its anything like the Nokia 6680, changing the fascia is a piece of cake. I bought a couple of new covers via eBay which came with a couple of tools to remove the existing one easily and without damaging the phone. The new one then just snaps on.This space has been intentionally left blank0

Ive recently changed the housing of my N73 to white (looks very smart now). When I was buying my housing there were two options, either change the front cover n battery. Or change the entire housing like I did. Now changing the just the front n battery cover is relatively easy. Changing the housing is much tougher.

Has some images on how to do it, which I used but its not entirely helpful. On a scale of 1-10 of difficulty I would say its a 6.5.
From the Images you can see you have to first remove the front case,
then remove a cage around the lcd.
Remove the screws, including the one behind the lcd (you will have to disconnect the lcd)
then its a matter of pushing out the motherboard and its metal surrounding
After that you have to take out all the bits from the original case and put it into the new housing, includes the charging socket, sim module, connectors for the sliding camera etc...
Then its just fitting it all back together (remember to screw tight!)
The first time I put it back together it all worked, except the camera would not come on when I slid the back, found out I had not screwed it tight.
I'm not exactly a newbie but i'm not exactly an expert when it comes to mobile repair. But I think it was quite a bit of fun, all in all it took me about 90mins, only cos I was being extra careful with everything.
If you do decide to do it yourself I will be more than happy to help you out.SLC: £13000+
Quidco: £131.24 (paid) + £0 (validated) = £131.24
Valued Opinions: £75 (paid) + £52.30 (received) + £4.50 (pending) = £131.80
StudentPanel: £250 -
Going to give it a try now
.
Wish me luck...if I dont reply then something has gone wrong and I have slit me wrist:p0 -
Done this successfully last night!
HOWEVER, the clip/slide that pushes the memory card into the phone was broken so when I inserted it in the phone the clip kept coming off so I need that new clip.
Now sure what it is called, it's the bit that pulls the memory card out. Phone is usable without this but would prefer it, cant find it on eBay. (This clip thingy is a slide plastic bit which keeps the memort card in place and is the part you pull off at the beginning of takent he phone aprt when chaging the fascia)
Sorry for being soo confusing!
Thanks,

I have a Nokia N73, but the scroll button has come off. As I need the phone on a daily basis, I cannot afford to send it back for repair. I also have a disagreement going on with another phone company who have never sent a bag for me to return their N73, so can anyone tell me how to either change the housing on one so I have the casing from the second phone with my 3 Sim card, or unlock the second one so I can use my 3 card in that one? I have a gadget phobia, so need to have simple answers!0
