Thames Water delaying water meter installation

in Water bills
Edifying interlude with Thames Water today, which i think the money journalists should investigate further and we should all protest about! Requested a water meter. Learnt the following from the engineer who came to do a 'feasibility study'. 1. Once we get a water meter our bill will go from £800 a year to about £200. 2. There is not and was not this summer a water shortage in this country. It's all hype.
However, Thames Water seemed very keen to find excuses not to give us a water meter. First their contractor, Vensis I think, claimed that our stopcock and pipes must be replaced. When we called a certified plumber they contradicted this. I rang Vensis back but they closed the job, refused to reopen it and forced us to reapply for a meter. Whilst they are looking for excuses to not give us a water meter we will be paying full price.
Surely a fairer way would be to retrospectively place us on an average charge that reflects usage from the date of our requesting the meter. It just seems a bit convenient that Thames Water are allowed to overcharge (allegedly) so spectactularly for 50 days. What other company is allowed to get away with such a thing? Martin - how about a campaign?!

No such thing as overcharging as you are being charged the RV of the property and it makes no difference to the company if you are on a meter or not, their profits are fixed by OFWAT normally 3 years in advance.
It sounds like they thought there was a pipework issue and down to the householder so closed the application until such time as whatever works has been completed.
As for the hype about a water shortage I don't see the issue as the hosepipe ban was reversed in most places if I remember right and I can't see the BBC being in on the con as the live reports did indeed show a lower then normal water level..
If you have a complaint write as a CROSS op's complaint and that means they have 10 working days to respond and can deal with your problems .There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin, and roam the world at will.
