My parents weren't into rock and had rather conservative, more old fashioned views, which made it somewhat odd when they bought me Use Your Illusion II one year for my birthday - think it was my 14th. I assume they must have asked some of their friends who were more in the know on the whole subject.

They'd also bought me Quake II on PC and my mum decided to come in to see how I was enjoying my presents... so as mum comes in 'Get in the Ring' was playing just at the point of Axl's rant, while I was blowing the faces off of cybernetic zombies. I think a part of her died that day...

Mine were somewhat similar, Mum was very into her Country and Western so when I arrived home from my older cousins house wearing his cast off Motorhead shirt and clutching Ace of Spades aged around 9 she was distinctly unimpressed :rotfl:
She learned to accept it, I even managed to get her to like Def Leppard in the end :D

Funny thing was when my Dad was dying we spent a lot of time chatting, one night we were watching TOTP2 and The Who came on, which prompted Dad to admit he actually despised Country music and only went along with it to keep the peace, he said he'd loved The Who and The Stones and was quite proud I'd gone down that route :o

I was chatting to my daughter and her eight year old friends before school one day and they were getting ready for the school talent show. One friend was clutching a copy of Lily Allen's album and said she was going to sing a song from it - I was a bit surprised and asked which one. She wasn't sure but said it was the third track - when I went home I realised that the third track was 'Not fair'. I just hope the teachers realised before she went up to sing!

    I have another similar story.

Just after I'd moved my mum, quite rightly if we're honest, assumed I'd have done very little about sorting through my things and getting everything nice and presentable. She decided to arrange for a friend of hers and herself to pop over and help me out.

Her friend texted me to let me know when they were on their way and I text back to say the door was open and to let themselves in. I wrongly assumed that they were only just setting off and so I had about 45 minutes before they would be here. Nope. Obviously the text had been sent from a bakery five minutes away where they'd stop to pick up some lunch.

So, I'm having a lazy day, sitting around in a t-shirt and my underwear figuring I'd throw some clothes on in thirty minutes time and I may have had the director's cut version of Basic Instinct on TV while playing GTA: San Andreas and as it happens they walk in just as Michael Douglas is getting a little rough with Jeanne Tripplehorn and a character in the game blurts out the oh-so-poetic line "Die you mother....... sons of ......!"

I could see the look of shock and embarrassment on my mother's face. The only comment I could muster was to try and brush it off with "I didn't write the script."
  • Be thankful it wasn't Nicki Minaj, OP! I daren't even paste some of her lyrics here for fear of being banned.
