Claims and Underwriting Exchange

I wonder if anyone else has had this problem. I recently tried to take out a new car insurance and found that the insurers had substantially increased their first quote because they found a "fault claim" registered against me on the CUE database. I have had no such claim and when I contacted my current insurers they confirmed that they had registered a claim as a fault instead on a "no fault". I now have to wait for them to clear it and in the meantime have to pay a higher premium. I just wonder how many other drivers are being misquoted for the same reason. You would only know if you checked what claims they think they have found against you. The CUE database is what they check before quoting and if it is wrong, tough luck! it seems.

Compared to the number of policies not many i would say.

Not all insurers check before quoting. So base the price on the information you tell them.

Fault or non fault, You still need to declare it for 5 years or so.

Fault/no fault don't refer to "blame", but to whether or not your insurer had to pay out and were unable to reclaim their outlay.

You can be blameless and still have a "fault" claim (eg if your car is hit whilst parked by an unidentified third party)

But both (fault and non fault) still get registered at CUE, and so you still need to disclose any "non fault" claims you have had.

That's not what happened to you though. You got a quote, then they checked and increased the price. You are getting them to fix their mistake and the premium will revert.

Mistakes will always happen but as you discovered, they are discovered and fixed.
  • I have had a similar experience with CUE

Elephant/admiral have me down as at fault on a certain date
    back in 2008.

wrong on both cases , wrong date and i was not even driving the car.
I think in my case i changed insurance companies shortly after
incident and i suppose closed the case without fully informing us
    of outcome.

Got them today to update the information and admit their mistakes
they said it was a human error . It was a right old rigmarole
as i couldn't remember what my policy number was !
the lady thought for some reason i wanted to get a sp30 changed
from 2003 to August 2008 , i was saying Nooooooo
the accident i had in 2008 as stated on Lloyds letter
they said you never had one then ! it was in july
i knew it happened sometime in the summer but they updated
    it wrong themselves ,.
    ,

Now i have to forward updated info to Lloyds my new Insurer .

As a side note LLOYDS also admitted making a mistake
by sending a letter demanding that if i felt the information was wrong
to obtain written confirmation from my previous insurer and post or fax it
by the 14th dec otherwise my premium will increase!

bearing in mind my new policy does NOT start until 27th December.
complained about this to Lloyds about being put under unnecessary stress and they said that letter should of been proof read before being sent, and as a gesture of goodwill will not increase premium regardless
of outcome of Elephants CUE c**kup.

so , cue is off to a flying start. :money:

    It happened to me too.

A few years after an accident my insurers told me I hadn't declared my at fault accident and they needed to increase my premium. Complete surprise to me as I'd been duly declaring my no fault accident every year without any problems and had no idea it had been reported incorrectly on the database.

Took a few weeks to get it sorted but got there in the end. It cost me some phone calls and stamps but it reminded me why I left the insurer in the first place!

While looking for a new car insurance provider I was told that I was on record with CAE as having made 7 not 3 'my fault' claims since 2009 (when I joined my present provider) in fact 2 claims had been doubled and the third trippled. I am now contacting my insurer to ask them to correct this misinformation ASAP as my insurance needs renewing on 29 June and I want to claim some refund of my hugely inflated premiums over the intervening years......Do I have any chance?!

    1. Do it in writing and send it by recorded delivery so they cannot deny receiving your letter.
    2. If they don't respond favourably send them another letter with the title "formal complaint" (again using recorded delivery) tell them if the issue isn't resolved you will take them to the Financial Ombudsman Service and you want their final response.
    3. Then be prepared to take the relevant insurers to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

You won't achieve this by the 29th June as insurers take weeks to deal with simple complaints.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

The CUE have just falsely told my wife's insurer that a claim made on 18th February 2013 was my fault. WRONG!! The accident involved a lady driving into the back of my car and the whole thing was settled by the lady's insurer. Now, 16 months later the CUE have informed my wife's insurer that I was at fault. As I am a named driver on my wife's insurance, her insurance company have billed a supplementary monthly invoice of £18.45. Until I can prove that it was not my fault, I am told that this cannot be credited back to my account.
How can this data base be so inaccurate?
I have demanded an apology from CUE and my insurance company has had to write to my wife's insurance company to confirm that the accident was indeed not my fault.
How can insurers ever trust the CUE data base again.
This has cost me much time, many 'phone calls and even more grey hairs.

CUE only stores data given to it by insurers. It is only as accurate as the data provided.

Your issue is with the insurer who handled the claim.
