If you don't need to use an overdraft - if it's interest free put the money into instant access savings - you will earn interest and then when you need to pay interest transfer the money into your account to put yourself back in the black, keeping the interest.

If you have an overdraft - use it!

I'm with HSBC and got £2,000 interest free in year 1.

i'm with hsbc and i got £1000 interest free overdraft in the 1st yr, 1250 in 2nd and 1500 in 3rd. also i got a 5 yr student discount train pass (worth £500, as you can buy them for £100 a year, but as i'm only a student for 3 yrs it's a good deal as i'll have cheaper train fares for 2 extra years!!)

I think that deal was pretty standard with most banks when i was signing up for an account (e.g my boyf is with halifax and got the same deal, same overdraft, same train pass)

A young persons rail card for 5 years is worth £100 (£20 a year). Providing you do not reach 26 with in 2 years of graduation (if your course is 3 years), you can carry on using it - it doesn't finish when your course finishes.

Mine is a life saver, especially as I'm now in my placement years!
