i'm with hsbc and i got £1000 interest free overdraft in the 1st yr, 1250 in 2nd and 1500 in 3rd. also i got a 5 yr student discount train pass (worth £500, as you can buy them for £100 a year, but as i'm only a student for 3 yrs it's a good deal as i'll have cheaper train fares for 2 extra years!!)
I think that deal was pretty standard with most banks when i was signing up for an account (e.g my boyf is with halifax and got the same deal, same overdraft, same train pass)Moneysavinghopeful :rotfl:0 -

Actually the young person's railcard is only £20 a year. It's worth £100 in total over the 5 years. That's all.
It is worth more due to the savings you can make on train travel, but the actual pass is only worth £100.0 -
im with natwest, got £1200 in first year, £1400 in second year and will get £1600 in third year ( if i pass exams lol ) Also got the free train pass, which I have to say ive never used!0

I had the full £1750 o/d the first year of my degree, was offered (without asking) the £2750 for my second year. However, I took a year out so am still on the original figure. Will definately be pushing for the full amount on my return this year.New Mantra: I must not visit MSE until after I've completed all my chores!!!!!0 -
thank you for all your replies...cos i can't decide where to get my student account, i know a lot of place give you free stuff but wether having the free stuff or get a slightly big overdraft with halifax? i don't know...0

Well think about it.. If you get £1000 more overdraft in a year and stick it in savings you will earn at least £50 - 20 could go on your railcard and the rest is a freebie! I've just been with hsbc, but they're just been easy.. I'm quite happy with them although for a grad account I may look elsewhere.0

im with hsbc because ive been with them years and i wasnt bothered about freebies as ive used a young persons railcard for 2 years now.
they did however give me 10 vouchers for free cds from cd-wow.com that you can use on anything you want, was very impressed and its easy to pay money off my student credit card with their online bankingHSBC CC - £3000 / £3000
Halifax CC - £1032.77 / £1032.77
Mortgage currently at [STRIKE]£82,299.71[/STRIKE] £76,017.62 would love to overpay0 -
