Hypnotherapy

Has anyone tried this, or know someone who has? Does it really work?
I'm considering it but really wanted to look further into it before I part with my money - it's £70 a session, and I'm told 3 - 5 sessions are 'the norm' - but the changes are permanent.

First rule: Only go to one who has been personally recommended to you!!
My friend has "trained" (loose term) as a hypnotherapist and personally she is rubbish at it - wouldn't have the heart to tell her that thoughso I simply don't recommend her to anyone.
I did go to a hynotherapist many years ago and he was the one who asked if I'd been recommended because he wouldn't treat me without a recommendation. To me, that was reassuring, and yes, it 'worked' (only 2 sessions and 1 tape recording of it) But I did go in with an open mind - I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was (for me!).
It's not for everyone.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Well Im trained in it so I do tend to believe it works:D
Lots of factors involved in its success though - first of all what is it you are looking to change? at nearly 250 quid you want to make sure you get the result you are looking for (make sure you get a guarantee from your hypnotist) Its important to realise that the hynotist doesnt make the change for you - you make they change they just help you to get there
Some people hope it is a magic button for things like smoking and weight loss - it isnt. You still have to work at it and if the real desire to change is not in place you may as well go and spend your money elsewhere.
However if the desire is there to change hypnosis can really help - pm me if you want any more info.0 -
Thats definitely encouraging so far! I'm a Reiki practitioner and know a fair bit about thought patterns and where they can take you healthwise.
I've pm'd you Nelski - thank you
Just out of interest, I'm in East Anglia (North Suffolk) - and I'd be very interested in any recommendations!0 -
I tried it about 13 yrs ago. I lost my father at a young age and had no recolllection of events prior to his death, I suppose blocked it out as it was all too upsetting to remember him.
Then as I got older, I found I wanted to remember my times with him, and I gave it a go.
I went to someone who was recommended, it certainly wasn't £70 a go, more like £20, but that was a while ago! The lady was lovely, explained it was nothing to be scared of and I was to take the sessions one at a time, I may have needed 1 session or perhaps 3-4 everyone is different.
She also explained that the hypnosis was just a heightened sense of awareness, and if for example there were smoke somewhere in the building whilst I was 'under' I'd be the first one out the door!!
Anyway as it turned out I had one session. It wasn't a magic button, but really rather strange....I'd be talking to someone about any sort of topic, and suddenly I'd remember something about my father doing/saying the same sort of thing and hey presto I'd remember things.
This still happens 13 years later... so something worked. Good luck!0 -
Wow Benny! That's pretty amazing to get your memories back like that! I've got an awful lot that I've blocked out - I'd rather know what they are and be able to deal with them - I'm convinced I want to try it but I need to find someone that I know is good at doing it!0

Hi. I used hypnotherapy several years ago. I was told I was easy to hypnotise and would go into a deep state. After two sessions and a tape I was told I wouldnt need any more. A relief to my bank account but it actually didnt do anything for me! I still suffer from the reasons I sort the hypnotherapist in the first place, four years on. It didnt work for me but I would still recommend trying it. A few hundred pounds for, potentually, the rest of your life free of what ever has a hold on you has got to be worth it.0

I did it to try and kick smoking - it cost me a fortune and didn't work at all.
I came out gasping for a ciggie........
But, I have heard of it working for some things.
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0 -
I think the success rate for giving up smoking is around 60% - so there's an element of luck involved. Also, you have to really want to give up. When I tried giving up, it wasn't the right time, and I was smoking again by the evening. A couple of weeks later, I tried again - but the difference was, I was completely ready - it's almost two years now and I don't miss it - except for a few stressy moments during the divorce/house move, but I resisted!
Alan Carr (not the comedian) has some excellent psychological advice in his media - I used that principle and kept reminding myself of it when I needed to - it might be worth you looking into him if you're still wanting to stop smoking0 -
I tried hynotherapy to stop me blushing every time someone spoke to me. (i'm not a shy person, and pretty confident, but everytime someone talks to me I turn the colour of a tomato and i HATE it!), but it didn't work for me.
Well, i still turn bright red, although I guess it doesn't bother me as much as it used to, but the hypnotherapy wasn't successful.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Unfortunately due to a lack ofdecent regulation there are a number of hugely underqualified charlatans out there. For example, some 'training' courses that qualify people to be Hypnotherapists last only 4 weekends and then they are armed with a set of scripts and told to go practice which they do (shudders).
My training lasted 2 years and I still have a further 2 years to complete my full training not to mention various courses along theway.
A good hypnotherapist will offer a free consultation where you can go along and chat about the issues and meet them.
I don't know where you are but there are no guarantees with therapy. How long it takes is a 'piece of string' question. It takes as long as it takes whether that is one session or 10. You need to feel comfortable with a hypnotherapist. Therapy is an intimate environment.
Ring around and ask for a free consult. Then go and see who you feel comfy with.
£70 a session seems a bit steep to me, unless you are in London where they seem to charge more. Please also don't equate spending more money with a better therapist. It just doesnt work that way!
PM me if you like for any advice.0
