  • Thanks to everyone that has replied.

I have a 5 bed detached house but my children are all under 7 - 3 children in total.

I don't have an immersion heater and no electric shower just power shower from the pressure water system.

I try to keep lights off and keep plugs switched off.

Will have to look out for one of those usage thingys might help.
  • My electric bill came last week from NIE and I nearly had a heartattack!

£210 for the quarter (we were away on holiday for two of the weeks!)- two of us living at home, out all day, no tumble drier, immersion and we're normally quite good at turning things off however, since then everything is being swtiched off.

Anyone know where to get the usage meter as there has to be something we're not seeing!

    Thanks
PS-3 bedroomed semi and no kids!

Have a look at Power NI website - I am with them and when I moved to on line billing monthly DD they gave me one of the useage monitors free. I saw the offer on the website - they don't seem to be giving any away now but they are offering them for sale

  • some of the things using your electricity... Downlighters are very hard on electricity, the kettle, tumbledryer freezer without much in it. I have reduced my 4 bedroom usage to approx £11 per week.

I'm in a 3bed end of terrace, 1 adult +2 teenage kids. Out most of the day and paying between £10 - £12 per week. I use the tumble drier for about 3 hours/wk and there are always various chargers plugged in!
  • as I said I got my energy meter checker from our local council library borrows like a book for a month - however I have had it now nearly a year each time I go to library I ask if they want it back as I love it lol and they say they have loads and as no one else is using them I can hold onto it until they run short!!

OK, have just added it up and in the whole of 2012 we have spent £180 on electricity (average £3.46 a week)! We're in a 2-bed terrace, and both work full-time.

Our hot water, heating and hob are all gas. Our total gas spend in 2012 is £210 (average £4.03 a week).

£390 total on gas and electricity for the year! Average spend of £7.49 a week.

Both gas and electricity are on keypad meters, I love them as we don't get any shocks.

3 bedroom bungalow here. All heavily insulated, double glazing etc. OFCH. We pay £65 pm on DD mandate. OP unless you're on Economy 7 that's a big bill.
