Weekly Electric

Options
Just want to find out what other households are paying weekly for electric.

My electric is with NIE and on average I am paying £25-£28 per week.

I have a keypad meter.

My wife and I are working full-time and no ones is in the house during the day.

Is this high? If so any advice on reducing the cost? I switch off lights, plugs and try to keep the costs down. I have energy saving lights bulbs but not for the downlighters.

Any advice would be great.

Do you have electric heating and the tumble dryer on constantly. £300 is a seriously high bill.
  • Very high!

There's 2 adults and 3 teenage girls in our house (semi, 3 bedroom), and we're using £50 a month on the NIE keypad meter.

I pay £80 a month by DD and had £7 in credit at last bill. I expect I will be using it all up over the next few weeks.
I bought one of those power meters to monitor usage and its surprising how much you use when you think everything is off.

Also a friend on a keypad tops up £20 a week on average but has 2 girls, so I suspect the tumble dryer and immersion are on quite a bit!

I have a 4 bed detached old house on a key meter, Im home nearly all day, live in wales so its wet therefore use tumble when have to, cook nearly every meal in slow cooker, steamer (gas is dearer!!!), have a dishwasher, and 2 daughters and we use around £20 a week. Yours does sound high - can you not get a useage checker our local library lend them free for a month (saves buying) since having that my useage has gone down from nearly £35 per week. I know when a light is left on and if phones etc are being charged. Limiting that has really helped.
  • that seems high. We are about £40 a month with airtricity keypad, was about the same with NIE bills. That is 2 adults out at work, using tumble dryer a few times a week and electric shower and cooker daily plus lights tv etc.

I used to use £240 for gas!!! Im now using around £150 and it colder just becuase I now dont cook big meals in oven I use slower cooker etc and altho Im home in the day I now wear a jumper and 2 pairs of socks instead of automatically turning up the heating! Making myself more aware of the electric useage also really helped the gas side as more aware alround.

The immersion and electric showers are the killer.
