re-HD READY ?

HD Ready as a marketing term has simply fallen out of favour hence why you wont see it on many sets despite the fact that almost every set (if not everyone) thats sold today is HD Ready and a large proportion of them are Full HD (1080p)
Of cause, whats now starting to appear is 4K (3840 × 2160) which is 4 times that of Full HD and about equiv to a 8 mega pixel camera..... certainly theres a few projectors starting to come down in price but TVs are going to be very questionable if its worth it for your average 42" screen given most argue that from normal viewing distances the average person cannot see the difference between 720 and 10800 -
To summarise, neither a TV that is described as HD Ready nor Full HD will not necessarily give you HD channels 'out of the box'. For that, you need an HD tuner built in.
All these TV's will do is display an HD image (if one is fed to the TV, i.e. from an HD PVR box).No free lunch, and no free laptop

Hi macman, I don,t see the point in them stating NOT HD ready when it is tuners inbuit etc?To summarise, neither a TV that is described as HD Ready nor Full HD will necessarily give you HD channels 'out of the box'. For that, you need an HD tuner built in.

As I stated, I NEVER watch tv, and this 40" to me,for OH,?? from 28" tube replaced, is no difference, except the size.In fact, I think the picture is not as sharp as 625 lines;;;all 5 tubes differ in size, and the smaller ones to me are clearer, must be my eyes, getting old;
The 46" is for my son, xmas box, he was burgled , and I cannot see why he wants it, in a room 14 ft square, my room is large, and the 40 " is ok;;
Stick to my kindle, big enough for me;0 -
'HD' relates to what it can display, not the type of tuner fitted.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Am I the only one who's curious about the "Polaroid TVs"? How do they perform? They look like good VFM.
HD/Full HD/HD Ready are terms that have been mucked about with so much as to render them useless.
For a big screen, go for 1080P capability, and nothing less.0 -
Bought a 42" LG yesterday which is full fat HD (1080p) screen but only a SD tuner built in.
I shan't use the inbuilt tuner in any case as I prefer my present PVR even though that's also SD only.
Since the only device I have that really is full HD is my apple TV, I'll put a bluray DVD and a new humax HD spec PVR on my birthday list for next year!
The lizard, spock reference is to those who watch 'the big bang theory' IIRC.Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.

There are insufficient outcomes in a standard rock paper scissors game. To improve this the variation rock paper scissors lizard Spock was developed by Dr Sheldon Cooper renowned theoretical physicist.

Until I went shopping, I didn,t know polaroid did tv,s have had a couple of thier cameras in the past.
I looked at LG, my phone is LG, but pricewise, polaroid are vastly cheaper.
Had to wait for Asda to restock for 46", just online, and know friends who have bought them.
Presume, they use parts shared, and as LG, Panasonic, Sony, et al have all just been fined hundreds of millions apiece for running a cartel, and price fixing ( tubes), only time will tell how good they are;0 -
Looks like Polaroid is a brand name used by Asda for its range of TVs, Nothing to do with the old Polaroid Land camera business. Similar to Technica at Tesco, or other sopermarket brands, Bush, Goodmans, Onn etc.That gum you like is coming back in style.0
