Hi blaque_beauty92,
Thank you for taking the time to post, I am sorry that you are not happy with the service you have received so far on your Smartmiles policy. Can you please contact me directly with your policy details so that I can investigate this for you? help@hastingsdirect.com
Many Thanks,
Jamie

Jamie is very helpful I've found. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0

I'll say this, a law will come in where the insurance companies have to share this data with the police, sooner or later, and then the fines will come through the post!0

Does anyone know how much Hasting Direct charge for change of address, My wife has just got a bill of 119.31 . Money taking from my account without authorisation. Really pi.....ed off.:money:0

Why didn't you start a new thread???
The charge will likely be a combination of an admin fee and an increase in premium due to moving to a more high risk area. Hastings Direct are quite generous with their fees from what I remember though. If you really want to know the admin fee part either look through the paperwork they sent you, or phone them (which will cost you money) and ask.
I struggle to believe that you (or your wife) weren't advised of the charge when informing them of the change of address.0 -
I just wanted to revive this thread to warn people off Smartmiles, although not the idea of telematics boxes in general.
I had one fitted to my daughters car after she passed her test in the Spring, in return for a very good policy price.
Since then it has uploaded data which is both provably incorrect and at times farcical.
As an example, the box reports on the time of day that the car is used and will mark you down if you drive between the hours of 10pm and 5am. All fair enough. But...
If you do only a few minutes driving after 10, having driven for hours before 10, the score given is zero for that day, instead of a reduction from 100% in proportion to the amount of time spent driving after 10pm. This matters as the overall score from all parameters will dictate whether a discount is applied on renewal.
Other incongruous data has been supplied for acceleration and braking.
I reported to Hastings that the box was reporting night driving when none had been done and vice versa, plus other obviously odd reports. After several fruitless conversations with Hastings I have now given up on them. The main problem being the lack of technical knowledge about the product. You cannot speak to the installer and administrator of the technology,QUARTIX, (although I did manage this by a different route) and if you want the box physically checked they threaten to charge.
Ultimately, you are left in a Catch22 situation where the computers are correct and you are wrong, and as we all know, computers never make mistakes, LOL !!!!.
I will be removing this kit from my daughters car and putting it down to experience, but save yourselves the hassle and go elsewhere.0 -
We have had a smartmiles policy on my daughters car for two months. I am concerned at a few things. My daughters over all score is 94%. I know her driving is save and you may say what's he concerned about thats a great score
I am concerned because when i look deeper in to the percentages for each item, IE Speed, Acceleration and braking She will get 100% on all then out of the blue 23% for speed but everything else is 100%. She uses the car on new forest country roads to work and college.
How can one get rows of 100% then a random 23% for speed but acceleration and braking on country roads still stay at 100%. It makes no sense at all. Then we go for days and days 100% then a random 33% for speeding while everything else is 100:
If she is speeding to that level on winding country roads where horses, donkeys and cows, roam the roads. Her braking would seriously be affected. Plus shes getting 100% on acceleration. It makes no sense at all
The other thing thats cheesing me off is poor customer service. Had to sort out the brakes on the car, phoned them, gave them times of brake testing, what was the point in that, as it is still on her dash board. I phoned and emailed about the above, IE wrong data on speed, nothing from them.
If i get a cheaper quote next year with out the box of lies, i will be off. My daughter is trying her best to be a responsible driver and stick to the rules, but this box is dishearting her when she knows she has not done what the box says.0 -

The best thing to do is get a cheap dashcam, and compare the data to the footage to see where things got triggered! it could also prove he not guilty to the data that is logged and get it rectified quicker than it would with nothing more than her word she didn't do it when the data says otherwise.0 -
Do they mark you down for doing 30mph on a 60mph road?
Maybe one of the roads has a lower speed limit than she realises?
Goes somewhere different on those days?
Brake testing after changing the brakes? You should be braking more gently to give more stopping distance to help bed them in, So puzzled why you would need to contact the insurance about brake testing?
I would avoid the boxes but it seems some cannot get unsurance without one.

There is no harsh braking she gets 100% for braking. Thats my point, she gets a random 23% for SPEED, but braking is 100%, as is acceleration.
Its random as the pattern is inconsistent with her driving averages of mainly 100% to 90% constant
The brake testing was before and after, They were not replaced, just reajusted0
