New Cats - UPDATED with Pictures :)

Hi Dazedandconfused - love your little cat-in-the-box

These are surprisingly really friendly - I had the same doubts when we first saw them but they are seem very fussy, the cattery girl was saying that all the cats they got from that house have been lovely - from the sounds of it they lived with an old lady who was very loving towards them all -but just a bit too loving to have so many that she obviously couldn't really cope with.
I'm sure they will have a few issues though, will just have to wait and see. Good idea about covering the carpet though, even healthy they might be a bit nervous and accidents happen. I have an old pair of curtains that I usually use for painting, so will spread those out as they are pretty thick.
With litter trays, I was thinking I will get an open one and a closed one - that way, when they start to roam the house a bit more I can put the closed one in the living room so it's a bit more pleasant for the human inhabitants! Then if they are happy to use the closed one I will get another.
I've just been tidying the room up and have left a few things in there like chairs that they can sit on or under, there is a big desk in there with loads of room underneath so I will perhaps put their carried under there when I first let them out so it's less of an open space.
Thanks for the John Lewis recommendation - I will have a look there!Ths signature is out of date because I'm too lazy to update it...

They're wee cuties!! You must be so excited! I agree about getting a Feliway thingie - I got one when I introduced a new cat to the one I already had and I noticed a difference in one of them in a few hours and within a couple of days they had competely chilled out.
You should try and get a good insurance policy with whole of life cover sorted asap as well. One of my cats has had quite a few health issues the last few years, and if I hadn't had insurance it would have cost me around £4000 in vets bills so far, and he would have 3 pre-existing conditions that I wouldn't have been able to get covered .
Have a great christmas with your new babies

THEY COME HOME TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!! :j:j:j:j:j:j
Will post some pictures once I've let them settle in a bit
Does anyone have any recommendations for cat litter? Preferably one with reasonably good odour control. One of our litter trays is going to have to be downstairs in the living room, I'm going to get a covered one and obviously will clean it daily but every little helps! We are going to get the same type as they use at the shelter to start with but it's good to know about the options.
All the cats I've had previously have been outdoor toileters!
Thanks

Congratulations.
We use worlds best cat litter. It's not the cheapest but it doesn't smell and lasts for aaaaaaggggeeeeeeees.
One thing if they are still getting used to handling that might be worth looking at are TTouch techniques. I used them on non handled kitties at a rescue and the change was amazing!!
Hurry up Saturday!!

You do need quite a lot in the tray initially (want it as deep as poss so nothing gets to the bottom of the tray) but wee's end up as .... pebbles and are easy to remove so very little wastage so overall it lasts for ages (obviously if it's cleaned out & poops / wee's removed regularly) and you rarely need to do a full change (which is the expensive bit).

Rising From the Ashes, it REALLY has!!! Do you think the cats will think I'm weird if I just sit there are stare at the tomorrow..? Lol what am I saying, they're cats they'll think I'm weird anyway!
Thanks for the litter recommendations - I will have a look into those and see what they prefer
That sounds interesting Murtle, TTouch techniques? Will google. They seemed pretty friendly at the shelter and very fussy, not scared of 'hands' iyswim, but the girl said they weren't actually properly picked up a lot and although they do occasionally pick them up at the shelter obviously it wouldn't happen enough for them to get used to it.
Come ONNNNN it's like waiting for Christmas lolThs signature is out of date because I'm too lazy to update it...

Well they are here

They were really good boys looking out the window in the car home but then poor Jake threw up in the carrier when we had stopped in the driveway! Bless him!
They are upstairs in the bedroom now with the door shut, Oscar seems to be the braver of the two so far as when we first opened the carrier Jake went and promptly hid in the darkest corner he could find, but Oscar stayed out for some fuss and was even purring!
I didn't get a feliway but am wondering now if it might be worth nipping out to PaH to get one.
It's so hard staying away and leaving them alone lol - I don't want them to think I have just trapped them in a room!

They're cats, they're probably more concerned with where the food is coming from rather than being trapped in one room

Good luck, make sure you post some piccies when they've settled!£2023 in 2023 challenge - £17.79 January0 -
Aaargh well had a little bit of an issue this morning - we opened the door to their room overnight with the thought that they might want to explore in the dark when they felt a bit safer with nobody around... Well, explore they did, as we woke up to a little pooey trail of evidence this morning...

We had left a litter tray down stairs where they would see it as they came down and although it had been used, they had also used the carpet in a number of places
We have closed the door to the room this morning thinking perhaps they just got confused and/or agitated and couldn't find their way back to the loo so might need a bit more time in there- now we are sitting downstairs I have opened it again so they can hear the normal noises of the house. Will probably shut them in overnight but not sure what to do tomorrow when we go to work, leave them in one room all day or let them explore... hmmm.
They are slowly getting braver though, much more accepting of fuss and attention!
I love them :PThs signature is out of date because I'm too lazy to update it...
