Merlin annual pass sale...

Just thought I'd share with you a little bit of advice with you....

Just been to The SEALIFE Centre in Scotland (Oban) and found out from the staff there that there is a Sale happening on the Merlin Annual Pass starting on the 26th. The adult pass which is normally £156 is only £99 but if you buy a family pass which we have asked them to reserve for us when the sale starts it's only £74each. We are only a family of 3 and still could get it at this price. The normal price.

As the centre in Oban doesn't issue the actual passes like all the other SEALIFE centres do they give you a gift voucher instead which is loads better as your 12 months doesn't start on the day you buy it you have 12 months to redeem the voucher a d your 12 months start from this day!!! That means that I won't be using my pass until Alton Towers reopens so not wasting all the days. Guess it's probably good as well if you have a pass already as you can get the voucher from them now while its cheaper and redeem it when your pass runs out!

Cant wait to get it and start using it but so glad I found out this centre does the vouchers instead of just buying the pass and wasting the days. I know the sale doesn't start until 26th December but here's the number if you want then I'm sure they'll answer the questions. Don't know how long the sale is on for. 01631 720386.

One very happy family!:T

Good to know they are doing the sale again :)

One point though, since they are annual passes and no attraction is open all year round then there are going to be 'wasted' days regardless of when you redeem the vouchers
  • I'm happy with them... For my kids all the sea life centres, Madame tussauds, Legoland manchester and Blackpool tower only shut on Christmas day so are open 364 days of the year... So I certainly will be using the vouchers once we start going again in the new year and won't be losing days!! Only 1 day will be wasted Adam lol

AFAIK the standard passes won't let you in to any London attraction, net alone Madame Tussards, throughout August

The zoo and Sea Life at Chessington World of Adventures is open through the winter.

But in general, I agree. They are definitely a summer thing.
If you're buying them as a one-off then I think it is worth buying them in the middle of the summer. So you can go lots of times in the second half of one summer and then lots of times in the first half of the next summer. In effect you get two summers out of the one pass, as in reality there's a limit to the number of times you'd want to go in one summer.
  • Never thought of it like that :) We are fortunate in that we are a mere 45min train journey from London and about 30mins drive away from Legoland, Thorpe Park AND Chessington so we get to use them all year round anyway [ and it doesn't bother us that the London venues are out during August as we just hit the theme parks :) ]. The passes also let us take the kids to TP/Legoland after school which we 'd never even consider without the passes.

They are definitely worth it @ £74 each as that is effectively the cost of going to 2 of the attractions in a year.
  • Awesome......! Just rang them up. Thanks for the tip

My sister has said she'll buy me this for Christmas. Does anyone know if she can go to Madame Tussaud's and buy it for me or do I have to buy it in person?

She could buy a voucher which you could redeem but you have to buy the pass as they take your photo which is printed onto the pass.

Another piece of advice on these, courtesy of a lady buying her family pass while I was buying mine ...

If you are a family of 4, planning to buy the standard passes, it's well-worth upgrading one pass to a premium pass. By doing this, you can cover all of your car-parking costs for visits during the year.

The cost should be an extra £16 (= £90 family premium pass cost less £74 family standard pass cost). When you consider that car park cost at most of their attractions is £6, this is a good deal. It should also work for a 3 or 5 person family pass.

However, be warned, you might find that the person on the till doesn't know how to do this! The person selling me my pass tried it and initially came up with an extra cost of £47 (as it had changed 1 family standard pass @ £74 to an individual premium pass @ £121). It wasn't until he got help from the person on the next till that it went through as a cost of £16.

I was so grateful to the lady buying her pass at the next till!!
