we love Absolute Balderdash (the newer version of Balderdash), Articulate, Logo, Scrabble, Monopoly & some of the Scene-Its.

We've got Pointless this year but haven't played it yet.
  • When we have family round (adults and children) we play Don't Panic, Creationary, UNO rummikubs. With just adults scrabble, scattegories or boggle.

Don't panic was a game I won and would not have bought but it is great. Basically have a timer which counts down and during that time you must name items in a given topic (pizza topping, famous women, art galleries etc). Have different difficulty levels so children can pick level 1 and brainiacs can pick level 5. Hours of fun and many good memories- my niece had to name five sandwich filings and we got tuna, tuna and sweetcorn, tuna salad, tuna and cucumber and cheese. She hates tuna!
  • I will also vote for Absolute Balderdash - it is such a fun game, and after a glass of vino can get even funnier!

We also love Articulate and Cranium.

We sometimes play old school on Christmas Eve though with Tri-onimoes and Rummikub, and save the others ones for Christmas Day.
  • My family love the TV show, Pointless and I'm getting them the board game for Christmas as i've read some good reviews

Just looked it up and I am confused even reading the blurb!

Another vote for Ticket to Ride here - brilliant, brilliant game and so many variations/possibilities.

We have often played this with first-timers, and I have been really impressed with how quickly people pick it up. Having said that, I remember going through the instructions first time and finding it baffling, but once you're actually up & playing, it all falls into place.

Another vote for ticket to ride too. We have lots of games but the ticket to ride ones are my favourite.
Easy to pick up like people have said. Not cheap to buy but worth it, they are so well made. :T
