When I missed the promotion code I asked here, bumping the thread.

After the thread bumped a few people got there before me.

When I ordered play.com noted my order as `order taken`.
It hasn't gone to dispatched or delivered.

I thought my card was billed and the item dispatched when more stock comes in seeing as they agreed to the sale with `order taken`, or the card to be later billed when in stock.
Meanwhile, my Cahoot webcard, although initially appearing to work was later declined.

I called them up and they said that the item was withdrawn from the manufacturer. I've worked for a distribution company before so I expect this to be a lie; mistakes like misprices cost and you have to deliver if advertised at the price, so the best thing to do to throw off the scent it to say that the item is no longer made.

So, are they lying? Let's have a look.

Only way to be sure os to call seagate it seems. I won't go that far.

The product page is still there, so it's unlikely they've completely stopped selling them (and as they've not been around long it seems unlikely they're not being manufactured anymore).

I suspect play have been inundated with so many orders that they're temporarily removing it so that they don't have too big a backlog to get through when they get more stock in.

So, I would think that if you managed to order while showing as temporarily OOS, its likely you will eventually get your hard drive (i certainly hope i do :D ). If you didn't get chance, just make sure you keep your eyes peeled when they do become available again...the voucher may still be valid.

Just rejected, but is this drive any good as they have offered a discount !

    Dear Customer,

Unfortunately the recent voucher that you attempted to use with us was a special promotion, only intended for a specific group of customers who were sent this voucher code via email

As a result of this we are unable to suppy your order to you at the discounted price at this moment in time

If you would still like to purchase this item at the full price please place a new order via your online account

Alternatively, we do have another 500GB Hard Drive that we will be able to supply you with for £79.99

Please find the link below and use the following voucher code when purchasing this item: HMHZR*******

Please accept our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused to you and thank you for your patience and valued custom

i got that email too. it's not fair - that promotion was widely seen and no terms said it was for certain customers only.

does anyone know how to close a play.com account?

Buffalo is really excellent make for a hard drive. I have had two different models for more than a year now and they work perfectly (both are Made in Japan). I think this is a reasonable offer (with the discount) but I am not going for it as a mark of protest (and as I don't need one anyway but was tempted).
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????
