Timberrrrr !

After recent bad weather....we have a tree within our garden...which is leaning quite badly...ie 20 odd degrees towards our house...been quoted £1000 plus to remove it...due to close proximity....it's a pine tree...about 30 ft high.....and quite near our drains...is this something we could claim on insurance for removal...or do we have to wait for it to fall on our house ?

I don't know whether your policy will cover removal now.

However, I'd be very surprised if your policy covers you if you wait! It would be a bit like telling the insurer "my tap was leaking a tiny bit, so I left it for a few months, and now my ceiling has fallen in - so I'm claiming for the ceiling".

I would suggest that you deal with it now.............
  • I'm rural...they'd never know.....so back to my original question....is it not feasible to ask the insurance company to remove it....before big costs are involved !
  • Cheapest quote is actually £2400....not happy !

I don't think a dripping tap really equates to a tree falling on your house....does it:o

Precarious position.... obviously going to cause a bit of damage to our house coming down ...so close....really not avoidable....probably being mugged off over price then...what can I do....just let it fall seems the best option !
  • In our old house we had a 30 ft tree in the middle of our garden which produced a horrible sticky sap which stuck to everything, so we decided to have it taken down.

We found a friend of a friend who took it down and disposed of for £100, he didnt dig up the roots of the tree, just cut it down to a stump ..... which we were very happy with.

So my advise to the OP is get some more quotes!

Your insurance policy may only cover damage caused by the tree not its removal.
