Its quite simple for Wonga - did they pay out the loan money to the account on the card? If not then don't try and take the money back from there! Its fairly obvious that if someone asks for money to be paid into account X and payments to be taken from account Y there is potential for fraud and/or loss so why permit it!

Precisely! There should be some rule in place that the bank account it's paid into is the one it's paid back from

Police will not get involved. Who told you that?

They let the banks sort it out, as since 2007 the banks agreed to resolve internally, only involving te police when THEY deem it to be required.

The guy on the phone, he asked for my permission should they need to involve the cops.

That's in case they need to investigate YOU, not wonga. :-)

You may have a habit of claiming fraud after a spending spree.

Oh right , must have misheard him
  • You still need to be sure there is no CPA in place. Cancelling the card won't work (or it doesnt for most people on here).

They cannot have 'guessed' your details by sheer fluke. If Wonga tried to take £500 once, they will keep trying until they accept it's not you who owes.

But as they'll have the name and details of the borrower, presumably correspondence will start arriving on their (virtual) doorstep and the phone calls will start.

I'd check my credit reports too if I was you to make sure what searches etc are on there if you're saying you havent ever contacted them.

Sorry but what is a CPA? and how do i check my credit reports :(
  • CPA = Continuous payment authority.

Its basically an agreement Wonga and other companies use to get the money off your card its not a direct debit or a standing order.
