Openreach are installing fibre in my area in the new year.
Am I right in thinking they will be replacing the copper wires with fibre up to the street cabinets ?
If so,does that mean if I remain on a non fibre contract (currently upto 8Mb ) I will get the benefit of a more stable and slightly faster connection ?

No.
Openreach will only add fibre lines to your local cabinet. The copper wires will remain untouched. So you'll still get the same service/speeds as before.0 -
So what you're saying is they'll put the fibre in place but only connect them to your line in the cabinet when you upgrade ?0

Yes, thats right. Thats exactly what I'm saying. Though there are a quite a few offers/discounts flying around at the moment. Of which I am a recipient -

So theres every chance you'll get some kind of discount too.0 -
Out of interest, how do you know that they will be installing fibre - did they write to you? (I'm curious because three-quarters of my town was upgraded to fibre last year, but of course I live in the other quarter and I'm not sure when - if ever- they will get round to doing us!)0

Go to here to check if your local exchange will get/has fibre:
samknows, exchange search
I got it with Sky a few weeks ago, went from 5mb down 1mb up to 40/10, very nice, I also went through topcashback and was promised £85 cashback as an existing customerit didnt track so had to raise a ticket.
