Hi
We have been thinking about joining netflix or something similar for a little while now as we are trying to cut down on buying dvd's.
Just wondering which one is best value and has the best variety.
Many thanks

Have you also looked into the movie channels? I used to buy bulk DVD's and Blue-Ray's every weekend, then went on to getting the movie channels to cut down in costs and only get one or two a week that I liked. You get a year out of the movie channels before they become repetitive showing the same movies (similar to commercial radio) but only get the benefit if you're at home a lot.
I was made redundant around 2 years back and took a job receiving a low pay so all those channels and DVD buying stopped. I started downloading via torrent sites momentarily until I got another job. It saved me buying a pile of poorly made movies because as a buyer of DVD's, I'm sure you will be all too aware that most of what you buy may not have any replay value. It also on the other hand helped me to make various purchases on several TV show box sets, movies and documentaries that I would never have seen had it not been due to torrent sites. So it was more of a promotional tool for me than "free download"
If you were to chose, I'd recommend lovefilm based on variety. I used to have it myself, but just for discs. Netflix appears to have taken off a lot in the last year alone and been the more popular of the two but it still lacks in most titles if your an avid movie lover and want the newest titles (which you used to pay for a small fee). Netflix also encounters problems with syncing and timing on android tabs, which defeat travel if you have an android tab, but it the least likely of the 2 to have streaming errors at home. It's like tea and coffee really!0 -
i use netflix but change the dns on my computer to get the USA version. Its is a million times better than the GB version.
Both versions offer free trials though so it might be worth giving both a try and seeing which if any you like best.0 -

I recently joined up with LoveFilm. LoveFilm and NetFlix are pretty much the same kind of thing, they both have a variety of movies etc and the difference in price is 1 pound currently.
The reasons I went with LoveFilm : The have been around longer , so more trust in their brand name. £1 cheaper. 1 month to start you off free, which NetFlix didn't have.. So far so good with LoveFilm. We’re separate, two ghosts in one mirror, no nearer
Later on if it turns to chaos

You can get a free months trial with Netflix as well, I decided not to carry on after the trial as there didn't seem to be that great a selection of films on there. In a month I felt I had watched most of the things I wanted to and couldn't warrant the monthyl fee based on what was on offer. It's a shame, because as socmwils23 says the US version is so much better. I have yet to try Lovefilm so cannot comment on that yet.0

Thanks
DxI'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -

With luck, socmwils23 will come back and explain.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market.
