Its very easy to diy, You would need to get some lenghts of timber, and make a frame around the extractor and screw the panels to it to cover it if you wanted to do that.
For the ceiling, you can either stick it up with no nails, or screw through the ceiling into the joists.
The panels are tongue and groove, you screw through the grooves and the screw is covered by the tongue of the next panel.
You can cut them with a stanley knife.
Your looking at approx three packs of the panels £120
Box of 100 screws £4 + 1 tube of no nails £5
Four or five of the corner trims £25
or 3 tubes of no nails if you dont want to use screws £15
About £20 for the wooden battens to make the box section.
Probably £150 labour if you dont want to DIY it.
So somewhere between £300 - £400 at a guess.0 -
i think the reason some are sounding like they are giving you a bit of a hard time is because to be honest, tiles, paint or pvc cladding aren't likely to help your problem - the damp has got to go somewhere unless its extracted - even wet rooms have to be ventilated or they end up being a !!!!!! to clean and they start to smell.
if the steam is left to circulate tiles will get dirty and grout will go black, pvc cladding will yellow and look grimy after a while and you'll be cleaning it as much as you'd be painting, paint will yellow and bubble -you really have to do something about the root cause.0 -

Did you not read the below? People are giving me a hard time because they haven't read that I come here having already dealt with two tradesmen who had a brief to improve the extraction. Why do you think there's a big pipe and boxing coming out of my bathroom into the bedroom? Some kind of contemporary art installation? Have a read before you decide to come off all cleverNo, I got tradesmen round with a brief to improve extraction, paid them a grand and guess what? It's all the same again... same issues, same peeling paint, etc etc. Why should I pay another cockney geezer another grand to sort it out?0 -
i did read it - the whole post....
just because you've had one crap job, doesnt mean you should follow it with another.0 -
I've had two crap jobs, and quite right you are, not sure I should paying another cockney cowboy to "improve" extraction again when I can just clean it every few months, seeing as function is not impeded0

If the cockney cowboys offend you so much, then move out of London....(!)0
