Lazy parents drive me nuts...

I live 10 - 15minutes walk from dd's school, then another 10 mins walk to pre-school, then 10 mins back home.
If I go in the car I get back home for 9am. If I walk I dont get back until 9.25am. I then have to set off again for pre-school at 11.45am.
As I am self-emplyed and work from home, every second counts. Believe me I would love to have the time to walk to school every day, but unfortunately it is just not possible.
I do try and walk to pick up from school, but again, if I have been out in the car picking up materials, then I will drop by on the way back and pick up then.
How do you know that the people dropping off in cars arent rushing off to work afterwards? or to hospital or doctors appointments??Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
I've just read the op again as I was beginning to think maybe there was something I missed
Nope I'm pretty sure I have the general gist and have responded on topic to the op on each post, it would seem that many haven't and as a result are taking part in the wrong debate. If I should need motoring or employment guidance this will be the first place I will come as the site is cram packed with sound advice, however I will post a thread requesting it, so just for the dimwitted out there I would like to announce I am adequately knowledgeable of the options available for transport and how best to carry out my daily work duties --- remainder snipped ---
And don't blame those driving their children to school (of whom I am not one) for causing traffic congestion when you are contributing to the problem yourself.
If it's off topic to raise the point that those who deliberately drive past schools at school dropping off times, when they could save their own time and reduce risk to schoolchildren by travelling earlier or later, then you have a strange notion of "off topic" too.0 -
I think you will find that the op is about those too lazy specifically, those out of the absolute hoards who clog up the roads and park wrecklessly and inconsiderately.
The problem is not the lazy ones - if they want to be lazy let them, who are you or I to judge!! They have the luxury of a car let them use it I say!!
The problem is the inconsiderate ones and not just at the school run!! - The ones that park where they shouldn't, drive too fast, cause the accidents - THEY are the ones that deserve our disdane!!:heartpuls baby no3 due 16th November :heartpulsTEAM YELLOWDFD 16/6/10"Shut your gob! Hi
im at a village school where a lot of people do drive out from the nearest town which is too far to walk. It takes us 20-25 mins to walk.
Our school only has a very small car park so you find parents parking where they shouldnt, parking people in, turning up either very early and sitting proudly in their cars or very late and taking the child in once school has started. All this is completely ridiculous as not only is there a HUGE park opposite my house with ample parking but there is a village hall half way to the school (literally about 8 mins walk from school) with permission granted for school to park there!
That said, there have been times (very few and yes I do have a school and pre-school run so potentially 3 trips, 6 their and back) that my partner and I have driven. If we are very late OH will drive us up and ill jump out with DD take her in whilst he goes to turn round. If I have an appointment or If im going into the town past the school I DO tend to drive so that I have more time, that said im lucky if thats a couple of times a month.0 -
I don't drive yet but am learning.
I take my 4 boys (3 of which go to school) everywhere I can by foot as it's easier and we actually enjoy the walk.
We walk to school with another lady and her son, we both have little ones in prams and we can have a nightmare most days.
The school is 20 mins away and we have to cross where there are no lights but there are Islands. Mums in cars never stop to let us cross, the people that let us cross tend to be the young boy racers and white van men (who would have thought eh), we get people shouting at us because we have started to cross and they decide they want to turn left now (no prior indication of which way they want to go). We have had to take our children (thats 4 walking all together and 2 in the prams) out into the main road before as there is no space on the pavement (not always people on school run doing it). We used to go a longer way which meant crossing at lights but in the 3 years I have lived in Cheshunt I have nearlt been knocked over 4 times by cars not stoping for the red light.
I am currently learning to drive and would like to continue the school walk but I worry it's just not safe enough at times.0 -

Why not save all this time and congestion and get to work earlier, and do something useful with the time when you get there?[/quote]
And this was intended as a useful and helpful suggestion? I read it as a patronising and pompous attempt at continuing to focus on my activities rather than the discussion at hand and responded accordingly, As I have pointed out maybe you'd like to read the op again and try to maintain the topic rather than the dispute in future as the post in question clearly applies.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
No, it was intended as a useful and helpful suggestion. You actually said something like "between 20 and 30 minutes longer" on a 9 and a half minute journey. Wasting that amount of your own time, sitting in congestion and making congestion worse, is ridiculous.
And the topic at hand is congestion - which you are worsening. The idea that school traffic is making "real drivers' important journies" congested is just selfish and unrealistic - everyone driving at busy times of day is part of the cause of the congestion, not just one section of those drivers.0
